Marine commander (Col George Bristol) says no stand-down order in Benghazi attack
UPI.com ^ | Jul 31, 2013 | UPI

Posted on 07/31/2013 6:53:04 PM PDT by xzins

A Marine operations commander told lawmakers Wednesday he gave troops in Libya permission to respond to a September 2012 attack on a U.S. mission in Tripoli.

Testifying in closed session before the House Armed Services Committee, Col. George Bristol contradicted claims by some congressional Republicans he had issued a stand-down order following the attack, in which U.S. Ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stephens and three other Americans were killed, The Hill reported.

Bristol, who commanded Joint Special Operations Task Force-Trans Sahara at the time of the attack, said he gave the Tripoli security team leader, Lt. Col. S.E. Gibson, permission to act freely in response to the attack, The Hill said, citing a description it had received of the committee's members-only briefing.

Gibson told Congress last month he was ordered not to send his team to Benghazi because they were needed in Tripoli in the event of an attack on the U.S. Embassy.

Republicans argue the United States wasn't prepared to respond adequately to the Benghazi attack.

They accuse the Obama administration of downplaying or covering up the administration's handling of the attack, its lead-up and aftermath during the heat of the 2012 presidential campaign.

"Colonel Bristol has experience that could be valuable in deepening our understanding of the events of that day," a committee source told The Hill.

"Of particular interest to the committee is what our posture was in the weeks and months that preceded the attack," the source said.

Bristol, a seasoned combat commander, stepped down from his task force commander post in March.

Someone is lying is my take on this.

That’s why they were so anxious to muster him out into retirement before he could testify, and even misrepresented his retirement date. (Probably on terminal leave.)

“He didn’t want to have to lie, so they pretended he retired” is my take on this.

JSOC is a military WITHIN the military —they get their high-priority missions STRAIGHT from the Gay Muslim, and you can be sure that the pressure is always VERY intense, to say nothing of how it is after this huge G.F. from hell.

HE IS BUCKING FOR GENERAL AND THIS IS ALL LEGAL SEMANTICS.

I would have expected this from an Air Force General, sure, but from a Marine Colonel somehow this chapter is a very, very bitter pill.

Semper Fi, Colonel...?

He is retiring, but that really means nothing for a bird colonel. He could be brought back on active at a later more propitious time at the drop of a hat.

Then he could get his star.

If I were CIC, my FIRST action would be to send something REALLY loud, FAST and frightening to do a low dip over the compound.. This would probably scatter over half the attackers which would buy some time for our troop movement. The point is, 0bama didn’t even do this. He didn’t even ask the Libyan government permission to enter their airspace. Just this alone is unforgivable.

Agreed. A single mach1+ pass at a couple hundred feet would break the back of any civilian riot and severely cripple even a determined military assault, limiting it to only visual communications, and that only among people whose sense of balance wasn’t obliterated along with with their hearing.

When I think of my late father’s duty as a US Marine in 3 wars, when I think of the men in the Chosin Reservoir Campaign, and then I watch this charade, truthfully it nearly brings tears to my eyes.

It would break my father’s heart to see what has become of the USMC.

When my daughter was young, a preteen, I told her that personal honor and loyalty were qualities that without, no person has any worth. A ditch digger with honor and loyalty is worth more than 10 Presidents or Generals without.

For all the times my father and I clashed as I grew up, for all the things we disagreed about over the years, I never doubted that he would gladly storm the gates of Hell for his comrades and his family. Damn few of those left.

Military Scramble Order Overseas, How They Work
First, I've got over 26 years working in military control towers, most of them as the watch supervisor/crew chief on duty.
Scrambling aircraft to respond to urgent situations normally starts at the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
The scramble order comes down through a secured phone call on a direct line.
In the attack on the U.S. embassy on Benghazi, the drone control would have been from MacDill AFB, FL, by U.S. Central Command, and would have been in direct contact, or maybe even remote control to the situation room in the White House.
Watch this 4 minute 48 second video Inside the Situation Room.
The pResident SHOULD HAVE issued to order to scramble fighters to Benghazi, to get there in minimum time.
Then he SHOULD HAVE issued a second order scrambling AC-130 gunships to respond to Benghazi, and have them stand by for more orders. This should have been controlled by the pResident, who should have monitored and responded with guidance from his Situation Room, Read
Here's one more piece of information.
Like Rush said:

Now we know that Obama was in the room watching Benghazi attack live.

I know from experience in the government (over 30 years) that the communication system allows for IMMEDIATE NOTIFICATION to the SITUATION ROOM,
as well as other agencies, of notification of a critical situation such as this.
I'm sure technology has changed and only gotten better since I retired, but read this with focus onFLASH OVERRIDE and FLASH.
There is more you need to read.
Read post #48 of ""Under God" Removed By Obama During Inaguration Pledge" and know that we were warned of this.

This has been planned for a VERY LONG TIME.
Obama is solely responsible for this.
Hillary claimed “No Knowledge” of gun running
and told Rand Paul he needed to ask the CIA
.

Let's look at some of the facts.
So, let us remember. For a better understanding of the issue, read HISTORY of Mohammed ( spelled variously; Mahomet, Muhammed, Mehmet, etc. ). then watch William Federer explain it, from Jan. 25, 2012 at CC Chino Hills, CA. It's a MUST WATCH for everyone,Christians, Athiests and even Muslims!

As retired military myself, I've seen the damage of "keeping secrets" about bad leaders.
Obama is EVIL, pure and simple.
Please watch Glenn Beck with Trevor Loudon & his book "Barack Obama and the Enemies Within".
Then watch the 29 minute 13 seconds video Trevor Loudon- An Urgent (and chilling) Message for America.

Obama may be feigning "incompetence," thinking he's too sly, being a "wolf in sheep's clothing" since his mentoring was from Fabian Fascism..
The "Establishment Republicans" will probably NOT want to IMPEACH the TREASONIST Barack Hussein Obama II.
But it's better for the country that Obama suffer the penalty, the strongest penalty for his actions, and his inactions.
Let's look at the Presidential Oaths of Office.
Now who among us really believes Obama did any of that ?
To Obama, that was "Just words. Just speeches! "
Damn him ! Damn him to hell !

I'll finish this with asking you to read Watch the 18 minute 56 second documentary video "Absolutely Uncertain" at "theBLAZE.com" or on YouTube.com, narrated by Irina, the 23-year-old “Jewish New Yorker” and a former Obama supporter .

One other suggestion, read DID OBAMA WANT STEVENS DEAD?
The language is a little abrasive, but spot on. Also read:

I guess Chaffetz is lying:

AFRICOM Leader General Carter Ham Was Never Ordered to Save US Men in Benghazi

Per Rep. Jason Chaffetz R-UT asking General Ham directly:

(close paraphrase)

Did we have assets in the area? The answer is “yes”.
Did we have proximity? The answer is “yes”.
Why we didn’t send in some of those assets? The general said he was not requested to do so.

Last year I read Jeff Shaara’s book, “The Final Storm”, about the battle of Okinawa. It still haunts my memory.

What our Marines did there merits all of them being awarded the MOH posthumously for the dead, and with full national honors for those still living.

It was chilling, disturbing.

Hillary has proved over and over that by staying quiet she can avoid any problems because her media allies will find another story to latch onto for her.

This is how Trayvon became more important than Benghazi.

The smartest the republicans could do is link her to Obama's statement about scandals being phony and force the media to ask her some questions:
Hypothetical Statement by Reince Priebus (or anyone in the party):
"I have to say that I absolutely disagree with the position taken by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton that oour ambassador and his security team being murdered in Benghazi is a phony scandal."

As this is published the Hillary media will go into protection mode and allow her an opportunity to make a statement saying the original quote was Obama's, not hers. THEN, the obvious follow up has to be, "do you agree with his statement?"

At that point she has no way out.

(Of course, this is only a fantasy on my part. No one is going to dare put her on the spot for fear of being taken apart by her media.)

Per the article it is a leak from a staffer from a closed committee, I am sure I can guess from which side. This is the standard operating procedure for the Dem’s. Leak a partial quote, half truth or lie from a closed or classified hearing and our side that plays by the rules can’t respond. I will hold judgement until I hear our side if they have the balls to leak the truth.
