Anyone fired?
The $4 million isn’t DEA’s money. They don’t care.
Someone needs to be fired.
Perhaps criminal charges against those who left him there. “False Imprisonment.” $4M from taxpayers, or more precisely, printed up by the FedBank does not actually punish the people who committed this act. It rewards the victim, but does not address the uniformed perps.
The government needs to pay less and the DEA agents responsible need to pay a lot, lot more. Although I would be tempted to take the cash, I hope I would be able to demand a few badges in my hand with the agents permanently lose their jobs and any chance to work in any law enforcement.
Okay, so how much do YOU think being left to die of thirst, handcuffed in a pile of your own soil, is worth?
Budget? WhAAAT Budget!
WE DON GOT TO SHOW YOU NO STINKIN BUDGET!
Not really. He ended up with kidney problems and a perforated esophagus. He’ll be dealing with it the rest of his possibly abbreviated life. Seems fair to me.
The only unfair part is the knuckleheads who left him there aren’t paying for it out of their pensions.
Hell I’d do it for 4 grand.

And how much is given to the families of the old guys reaching for the TV remote who were blasted to bits, along with the dog, by cops at the ‘wrong’ house?
"Three minutes without air, three hours without shelter, three days without water, three weeks without food."
(Obviously, these numbers are modified by conditions - especially the second, the shelter number reflects the environments that survival situations tend to occur in).
Most people have been thirsty in their lives. Most people have been really thirsty. I think that makes them think they understand what it is like to be dying of thirst. It doesn't even come close. This is a hellish situation to be in. I've been there. In my case, it was my fault. If somebody else had done this to me - and if a government violating my rights had done it to me...
The article makes It sound like it was a f-up and not intentional. Anyone know the whole story?
Being white, I will pass on any jail time.
Seems right to me. If I was innocent of any crime and left to rot for 4 days in jail due to incompetence I think $4 million would be about right - $1 million per day.
Pesonnally I would give all the money to charity if there were reprecussions for the jailers. But Feds can’t be touched.
If they gave me a toilet and running water, I’d do four days in a cell for 4 million, no problem. I guess if they gave you water and a toilet, you wouldn’t get a 4 million dollar settlement though :(
Hate to say it, but why can’t I get this lucky? C’mon cops...I need a million...at least.
Apparently they almost killed him.
I hope heads rolled but they probably didn’t. Anyone associated with our Imperial Government seems to get a pass these days.
It would be also nice to know who and how many got terminated...
Not holding my breath...
I wouldn’t ask for a dollar of taxpayer money. Only that I get the entire life savings of those responsible, a guarantee that no government will ever hire them again and 4 days in the same cell.
We need HARSH punishments for incompetent and dirty cops. Right now they barely get a slap on the wrist. The worst that happens is the taxpayer picks up their tab.
NYPD detective gets community service for planting crack to meet felony quotas. You won’t see this in USA news: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2095772/Cowboy-cop-Jason-Arbeeny-planted-crack-couples-car-seat-escapes-jail.html
ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hardly. He almost died of dehydration, which is one of the most unpleasant ways there is to die, and he will likely continue to have medical problems as a result. Locking a prisoner in a room with no food or water until he died was a technique used by the Nazis at Auschwitz to terrorize the inmates.
“...a bit over-the-top...”
You seriously asked that?
If you were shoved in a cell, forced to drink your own urine, handcuffed, and covered in your own waste, I’d wager you’d be asking for 4 or more for sure.
I know I would. Hell, I’d OWN the f***ers and several next generations of their families as indentured Public servants.
