WASHINGTON — The Obama administration on Wednesday released formerly classified documents outlining a once-secret program of the National Security Agency that is collecting records of all domestic phone calls in the United States, as top officials testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee. As the hearing began, The Guardian newspaper published another document from the archives of Top Secret surveillance matters leaked to it by the former N.S.A. contractor Edward J. Snowden. It was a 32-page presentation describing the N.S.A.´s XKeyscore program, by which N.S.A. analysts can mine vast databases of phone and Internet information the agency has vacuumed up.

Sure they delete it, after they run their backups.

Caption reads: "If you want privacy, write a letter" as RFK pops out of the phone receiver.

That was quick. Looks like now they have a good idea of what Snowden’s got on that thumb drive.

"Sure they delete it, after they run their backups."

Yep. It gets 'deleted' AFTER it's promptly stored in their massive data storage facility in Utah.

By the way, I couldn't care less about the NSA story compared to the IRS story. Let's see 0bama comply with document requests on that matter! Benghazi, just as important as IRS. Congress needs to prioritize these scandals, otherwise it's all a wash.

Both of these programs operate on a very large scale, the 2011 briefing paper said, followed by something that is redacted, and then: However, as described below, only a tiny fraction of such records are ever viewed by N.S.A. intelligence analysts.

If my suspicions are valid, this statement is such a Clintoeske offering.

I believe there are electronic sniffers that are able to read this stuff for the staff at the NSA.  The only reason only a few records are viewed by NSA staff, is because all offerings are categorized electronically prior to them having to review.  Thus, every record is essentially read and evaluated.  It's just that they are not all read by NSA intelligence analysts.  Sounds so good when they report that, but it's essentially a little white lie with massive deceit behind it.

I want to hear from EVERY FREAKING FREEPER who told us all that with the Patriot Act, “If you aren’t doing anything wrong, what do you have to worry about?”

Love,

I experience one my Son's friend being arrested because of a complaint regarding words on the Internet from a person who said the words were threats. Was a fabricated lie but the authorities were obligated to arrest him. Son's friend spent nearly six months in jail under one/half million dollar bond. Taught me a valuable lesson regarding the Patriot Act. Learned Patriots were the ones being put in jail.

This is a smoke screen. Call record searches is unsettling but not the main issue to me. How about grabbing content on millions of users in VZ based on a single court order. At least that is what I read. I want to understand how many FISA intercepts are triggered by one judge signing off.
