New England Becoming More Pro-Abortion; South, Midwest Becoming More Pro-Life

Views on abortion are becoming more entrenched in certain regions of the country, with New England residents more convinced of the pro-choice position and the Midwest and parts of the South becoming more pro-life, according to a new Pew Forum study.

While abortion views have remained relatively steady when looking at the nation as a whole, the Pew study shows greater variation in a few regions of the country. The study compares views on abortion in 1995 and 1996 to views on abortion in 2012 and 2013 for eight regional areas – New England, Pacific Coast, Mid-Atlantic, Mountain West, Great Lakes, South Atlantic, Midwest, and South Central.

Like the nation as a whole, abortion views held steady in most of those regions with three notable exceptions – the Midwest, New England and South Central. Residents became more pro-choice in the New England states and residents became more pro-life in the Midwest and South Central states.

In New England, which includes Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, 70 percent answered that abortion should be legal in all or most circumstances in 1995-1996, which increased to 75 percent in 2012-2013.

In the Midwest, which includes Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota, a majority, 55 percent, believed that abortion should be legal in 1995-1996, but that decreased to 47 percent in 2012-2013.

The South Central region, which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas, saw the largest change of any region. Support for keeping abortion legal in all or most cases reduced 12 percentage points, from 52 percent in 1995-1996 to 40 percent in 2012-2013.

The report notes that the regional differences are similar to the regional differences over the issue of redefining marriage to include same-sex couples.

"These regional differences are similar to the steep national divide over gay marriage. A 2012 Pew Research Center analysis found that same-sex marriage received broad support in New England and faced the most opposition in the South Central states," the report states.

Part of the report results were based upon a July 17-21, 2013, survey of 1,480 adults with a plus or minus three percentage point margin of error.

God is a creator. He continues to create. We should not interrupt His creations.

Great, another good reason to give that cesspool back to the king.

UNTRUE:

Vermont is being overrun by Massachusetts leftists moonbats who are buying up properties and advocating all kinds of eco-Obummer-leftist agendas there, pretending to be part of the "Kingdom"-

I go there all the time and see people that were not there yesterday moving in and raising holy hell for pro-abortion, anti-2nd Amendment.

The natives are restless.

The lines are being drawn. Leftists can have New England, I’ll take the South and the Mid-West, for sure!

New England is dying, physically and metaphorically.

The spirit is weak.

Proud to be a South Dakotan!

I am a conservative who was born and raised in MA and went to college, got married and had my first child in Vermont.

Vermont has been a liberal state since at least 1989 when I enrolled in college there. In Chittenden county Bernie Sanders ushered in liberalism in 1984 when he won the mayoral election in Burlington by a mere 10 votes. He ran as a social progressive liberal who promised he would not erode gun rights. The rest as they say is history. Yes, there are limousine liberals in Vermont from points south, however there are at this point plenty of homegrown Vermont liberals as well. My brother in law is one of them.

Those Yanks love their infanticide, don’t they? Send ‘em some Chinese Christian missionaries.....

Really, are we surprised? NYC, Vermont, Rhode Island.....all bastions of anti-Judeo Christian ethics nowadays.

I am amazed at the strength of the echo chamber in which the left moves farther toward its ultimate goal in some regions, and the right moves more firmly toward individual rights in other areas.

In cities and New England, it is not socially acceptable to question abortion, gun control, income redistribution, or any other aspect of their big government controlled world.

In flyover country, those who value innocent life (both the unborn and those who are grown but potential victims of criminals) almost never interact with the far left fringe face-to-face. We don’t know how those freaks think, or even if they think, and they are completely lost on how we can have such mean feelings toward women who want to kill their babies or toward innocent kids who just want to bring Skittles home to their younger siblings.

This may not end well, and MSNBC and people like Sharpton, Farrakhan, and Obama are doing their best to fan the flames.

Vermont natives HATES liberals....(a friend bumperstick on the back of his F-250 has this: 'Burlington is not the real Vermont and Bernie is not a REAL VERMONTER')

Same in the small towns of New Hampshire and Maine...they hate LIBERALS

Noting that you cannot expect journalists and reporters to know the Holy Bible, the problem that I”m having with the Pope’s arguably unscriptural remarks about not judging others is the following. It’s basically the same line that pro-gay activists have been using to justify same-sex sexual relationships for the last 15+ years.

As evidenced by 1 Corinthians 5, Paul chewed out the church in Corinth for tolerating church members who were practicing incest, telling the church to judge such members and expel them from the congregation if necessary. 1 Corinthians 5:12-13 clearly indicates that church members can judge other church members.

In fact, Matthew 18:15-17 indicates that Jesus had taught Christians to likewise judge church members and give unrepentant church members the boot.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 warns “do not be decieved” concerning things like sexual immorality.

See my previous post... I also worked in Vermont as a nurse and can tell you that while there are conservative native Vermonters there are plenty of homegrown native (yes born there) liberals as well and no they don’t live in Burlington. Many native Vermonters are liberals.

If Northeasterners are getting more pro-Baby Killing, then in the not too distant future...there won't be too many Northeasterners.

Actions have consequences.

Eventually their opinions won't matter...because there will be so few of them.

A Lesson to be learned from Detroit... aside from the number of well off folks LEAVING the city, abortion rates in Detroit are the highest in the state of Michigan...(The map below shows Wayne County, where Detroit belongs (light brown, Southeast) ).

The population of the city has dropped from a peak of 1.8 Million to 700,000 today.
