Americans cut back on Soda - Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Dr. Pepper Snapple Group see continued sales...

It seems that not even Beyonce or new, lower-calorie options can convince Americans to drink more soda.

Coca-Cola Co., PepsiCo Inc. and Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc. all sold less soda in the second quarter in North America, dashing hopes for the moment that splashy new marketing and different sweetener mixes could get drinkers back.

Coca-Cola Co. said it sold 4 percent less soda in North America, while PepsiCo Inc. simply said its decline for the region was in the "mid-single digits." Dr Pepper sold 3 percent less of the fizzy drinks...

Americans can figure this out for themselves. We don't need the nannies. Thank you.

Soda prices have gone up a lot the past two years.

I now only buy when they have a great sale on what I want to drink. I am off the corn syrup sodas and if I have one, it’s made with real sugar.

Why drink soda when there’s Yuengling?

I gave up Cokes for Lent last year and never went back to drinking it or any other soda.

Sometimes I really miss a good cold coke. If I want bubbles I will drink beer but for the most part, ice tea is my drink now.

“Soda prices have gone up a lot the past two years.”

I haven’t bought a canned or bottle drink in years. I make my own and carry them with me. But, I’m incredibly cheap. (Read, the “Millionaire Next Door.”)

I'm doing all I can do to help these companies out.

I drink at least 3 liters of Diet Dr. Pepper per day.

Seriously though, the first big name soda company that strikes a deal with "Soda Stream" to market their syrup will rule the soda world.

That’s great. I had contemplated doing that but I wasn’t sure that any of the cola syrups for making your own were sugar based, rather than corn-syrup based.

I drink more cold tea now also. I always have about a gallon in the fridge so that for every soda I drink about 2-3 glasses of unsweetened tea.

Yep, imagine a new soda steam machine that is basically a fountain drink machine at home.

Indeed, it’s the prices that have folks cutting down, nothing more. Any regular shopper who can’t see the falling value of the dollar, the sheer doubling of the cost of Pepsi and Coca-Cola products over the past two years is either demented or is spending someone else’s money.

Why would I want to drink what Beyonce drinks? It might make my ass fat, like hers... Or make me look like the Hulk.

I use tea or coffee. Make both to taste and serve cold. Soda is too sweet and it upsets my stomach. If you’re off it for a while and then try some, it will taste like malted battery acid. You’ll wonder why you ever drank it. Also, if you look at the sugar content, it’s a wonder we’re not all diabetic.

unsweetened? Not for me.

I like sun tea, its been a while though.

Put about 8 tea bags in one of the big glass jars and leave it out in the sun for a few hours. It’ll get dark and then you pour it over ice and sugar in a glass.

yum

Imagine how much less they would have sold if it wasn’t for food stamps.

Coca-Cola Co., PepsiCo Inc. and Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc. will keep those campaign contributions pouring in.
And spending that food stamp money on advertising.

generic, store-brand sodas are about half the price (2 Ltr bottles) of the regular brands

I always get grief for posting this but I would serve my kids a glass of beer over a can of soda pop. I’m no health nut but soda pop is just not good to put in your body.

I’ve cut way way down. I’ll have maybe one a week if that.
