Sheila Jackson-Lee Pushes Bill To Punish “Stand Your Ground” States, Reward “Duty To Retreat” States

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-olt) filing a bill to legislate mandatory cowardness by cutting federal funding to any state supporting a “Stand Your Ground” law and to increase or maintain funding to states that implement a “runaway and show weakness” law—or as Sheila Jackson Lee calls it—”Duty to Retreat” law.

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)

Lee also wants to regulate any individuals who dare to take on the individual responsibility of participating in a neighborhood watch program. Guess the Black Panthers would become the guards in Sheila Jackson Lee’s vision of America.

Here’s an inconvenient truth for Liberals like Sheila Jackson Lee—blacks benefit the most (more than whites at a disproportionate rate) from the “Stand Your Ground” laws.

The Hill reports the following:

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) said Wednesday that she would soon introduce legislation that would cut federal funding to any state that doesn’t require neighborhood watch programs to register with police.

Jackson Lee said her Justice Exists for All Act is a response to the trial of George Zimmerman, who was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter charges after shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman was the neighborhood watch coordinator in the Florida neighborhood where the shooting took place.

“We will … decrease the incidence of gun violence resulting from vigilantes by reducing by 20 percent the funds that would otherwise be allocated … to any state that does not require local neighborhood watch programs to be registered with a local [law] enforcement agency,” Jackson Lee said on the House floor.

She said her bill would also use the threat of less federal money to entice states to change their “stand your ground” laws. Jackson Lee said her bill would only allow states to avoid a cut if their laws are amended to include a “duty to retreat.”

“For states that do not require a duty to retreat, we will question their federal funding and assess their Justice Department funding and reduce it by 20 percent,” she said. She was not specific about what the change might mean for state laws.

Florida has a “stand your ground” law, which allows people to use deadly force against others when they think their lives are in danger in certain cases.

In his trial, Zimmerman did not rely on Florida’s “stand your ground” law, and instead used a traditional self-defense argument. Leaning on “stand your ground” could have allowed the court to decide early on in the case that Zimmerman’s actions were protected, which would have ended the prosecution’s option of pursuing criminal or civil charges.

Jackson Lee said her bill would also require the U.S. attorney general to study state-level “stand your ground” laws.

“Let’s speak to the pain of the American people,” she said. “Let’s look at ways of fixing the law.”

As I wrote the other day, there should be an amendment to her bill providing for punishment of anyone who puts someone else in the position of having to exercise a duty to retreat.

SJL would have to gain IQ to qualify as a retard.

Liberal, racist, AND stupid is clearly enough qualification to be a democrat - but come on, a Congresscritter?

Seriously - the manufacturers of the dumb-o-meter should put a warning label to avoid use on SJL; that poor needle would fly right past stupid and get pinned on ‘Box ‘o Rocks’ freakin stupid.

Reduce vigilante gun violence is her big schpeel here.

How about cutting funds to states that have skyrocketing gun crime by criminals out of control? And aren’t doing jack about it?

Almost all black deaths are caused by other blacks. And are not vigilante killings.

Can I ask a stupid question? .

Is this business about stand your ground laws an example of the big lie, that if repeated often enough, people start to believe?

The stand your ground law was not part of the defense of Zimmerman in this case. Yet we hear so much about how we need to look at stand your ground laws in light of this case. Yet such law was not one of the legal issues involved.

Sorry if a stupid question, but, Why are liberals and the media and entertainment industry idiots such as Stevie Wonder all so troubled by stand your ground laws, when the stand your ground Florida was not even a part of this court case????????????

I think Sheila Jackson-Lee actually believes that America should be made safer for thugs.

It was also Sheila Jackson-Lee, if I recall, who said that we can't hold gang members responsible for the crimes they commit with firearms because those firearms "are trafficked."

It apparently never occurred to SJL that gangs regularly engage in gun trafficking as one of their areas of operation, and strangely enough, that said gangs would quite likely be trafficking in guns for their own nefarious use.

Just think...if SJL's IQ was just 11 points higher, she would be petrified dinosaur dung.

That is not a stupid question. If it were a stupid question everyone would have an easy answer at the ready. The answer is more complex than, “because they’re all idiots”. Although that is, no doubt, one of the answers. I think it has more to do with advancing an agenda and not letting facts get in the way.

Don't worry, folks! You can always defend yourselves using Democrat Rules for Self-Defense. If you are attacked just do the following:

1. Pee your pants.
2. Blow a police whistle. No, on second thought don't do this; you could damage your attacker's hearing. That would be an OSHA violation!
3. Give him anything he demands.
4. Drive him to your house.
5. Show him where all of your valuables are and let him take his pick. Carry them out to your car for him.
6. Let him rape any women in the house. If she is so selfish as to resist, hold her down for him. Tell her to "relax and enjoy it" and explain that resistance = racism.
7. Hand him your car keys. Give your ATM card and be sure to write down your PIN for him. Come on, he's gonna need gas money!

I always thought “duty to retreat” laws were designed so when Klansmen came to your front door you were not allowed to protect yourself but must run out the backdoor.

Guess who was waiting there!

There are 15 states I would like to see secede from the USA.

ARIZONA
NEW MEXICO
TEXAS
NEVADA
OKLAHOMA
MISSOURI
UTAH
COLORADO
NEBRASKA
S DAKOTA
N DAKOTA
WYOMING
MONTANA
IDAHO
COLORADO-—the counties of which are asking to break away from present day Colorado.

They can protect their own borders. They can grow their own food. They can control their own water-minerals-oil-coal-timber...etc. They can educate their citizens the old fashioned way, starting with the 3 “R’s”. They can take every gun & ammo company into their core & follow their own Constitution. They can ‘export’ what they want & keep what they want for themselves.

Then the Libs can negotiate to obtain what they need from these WESTERN STATE OF AMERICA. Crying & Begging is not recommended for the Libs to obtain the supplies they need!
