It's a basic human act, and it says a lot about society -- and the state of homelessness in Santa Cruz in the year 2013 -- that a discussion about keeping people from doing it in public places is even warranted. But here we are.
The problem: An increasing amount of human waste is being found along the San Lorenzo River levee and in downtown-area open space. People relieving themselves in public spots is apparently a growing problem in the city, one that has residents who regularly walk the levee path and business owners along Front Street -- many of whom have back doors that open to the levee -- absolutely fed up. Who can blame them?

What would you do if when the SHTF, some homeless people camp on your property? What if there are more of them than you? Say they aren’t going to attack you, but there they are, living on the ground.
I'd start out with pepper spray while they slept. More pursuasive means would be used if that failed.

The Tribe has a standing SOP for that case: drive them off. Not attacking TODAY does not translate into not attacking in the dark.
And those who mean you harm are watching your reactions; you will be tested to see if you’re an easy target yourself.

I don’t understand... A Democrat newspaper mentions the “homeless” even though they have their African communist president Ubama in office? And a Democrat governor? And Democrat super majorities in the state legislature? Of course, this bold editorial proposes no solutions - - it only “wishes the city good luck”, but there you go. The only surprise is that the authors didn’t somehow find a way to blame the Republicans.
I didn't make it to the bech often, mostly, I stayed here until I left in 1973.
They will attack eventually, if they think I have something they want. When the government stops the free handouts, they’ll find another way to get stuff without working.

I knew of no one that had the guts or gall to take a dump in my yard. Hell, even the dogs didn’t ‘do’ in my yard AND that was before leash laws were paid attention to.....

I don’t know. It depends on who they are and how they act. We have a small family, and might need some help. If they have some skills worth having, and aren’t druggies, I might dig an outhouse and give them a tent, and teach them what weeds and flowers are edible.
I expect that if there is no sheriff to call, that vigilante groups will form much as the baldknobbers of South West Missouri did to take care of such stuff after the civil war.
The baldknobbers usually gave a warning by leaving a bundle of sticks at the door. In Springfield Missouri, the citizens gently suggested there were better places to live than Springfield, and gave them some supplies to get them on down the road, thus channeling the undesirables away from the area.
