Health-care law is tied to new caps on work hours for part-timers (WaPo)
Washington Post ^ | July 23, 2013 | By Sandhya Somashekhar

For Kevin Pace, the president’s health-care law could have meant better health insurance. Instead, it produced a pay cut.

Like many of his colleagues, the adjunct music professor at Northern Virginia Community College had managed to assemble a hefty course load despite his official status as a part-time employee. But his employer, the state, slashed his hours this spring to avoid a Jan. 1 requirement that all full-time workers for large employers be offered health insurance. The law defines “full time” as 30 hours a week or more.

“We work so hard for so little pay,” he said. “You would think they would want to make an investment in society, pay the teachers back and give us health care.”

This month, the Obama administration delayed the employer insurance requirement until January 2015. But Virginia, like some other employers around the country that capped part-timers’ hours in anticipation of the initial deadline, has no plans to abandon its new 29-hour-a-week limit.

The impact on Pace and thousands of other workers in Virginia is an unintended consequence of the health law, which, as the most sweeping new social program in decades, is beginning to reshape aspects of American life. . .

If Obama and gang somehow convince the Republicans to remove the 30 hour limit so that employers are forced to pay for insurance for part timers, there will be a switch to 60 hour weeks as standard. The extra overtime for one employee will be cheaper than insurance for two or three part timers. So people will either work 60+ hours or zero.

“We work so hard for so little pay,” he said. “You would think they would want to make an investment in society, pay the teachers back and give us health care.”

I understand why this guy's hours were cut - two reasons. One, obamacare and the rising cost. Two, he's too ignorant or indoctrinated to see it, thus not real qualified as a professor.

Wake up people - particularly you lib lurkers out there. The fault isn't your employer. They have to look at the cost of providing healthcare under obamacare vs the cost of cutting hours and taking on more employees. Unlike the government, real world businesses actually have to balance the books. They can't spend more than they are bringing in. (well, not for long anyway - cash reserves and credit have limits) So when your hours are cut, or your existing healthcare coverage is reduced, and/or the costs go up while quality/availability goes down... Don't blame the medical industry, don't blame your employer. The fault lies 100% with your 'rat representatives and President.

People voted for Obama and his healthcare hoping that other people and/or the government will pay for it. That goes for twenty-something young people who won’t be able to save for a house because they’re forced to buy health insurance.

The genXers and those behind them thoght the health care would be free. Now they find out they’er premiums are going up or their getting their hours cut. Now they have to live with it.

I’ve always wondered if it came down to a liberal sharing an apple with a friend or with a black family, who would the liberal choose. And she knows nobody wil ever find out.

The bitter irony, though, is how many of those 20-somethings (up to the age of 26) are going to buy insurance anyway when they can just stay on the “mom & pop” plan?

So much for the youngun pool for the idiot actuaries (if there really ever were any) that dreamed up Fobama “care.”

Gee, I wonder who Kevin voted for. (Actually, I don't). You got exactly what you voted for, Kevin.

This is exactly what Rush means when he says Liberalism seeks to spread misery instead of create wealth.

You will now have most Americans underemployed and owing more to the government than at any time in the past instead of fewer Americans working longer and harder to succeed and spawn spin-off businesses and new companies.

Socialists don’t care that their plans screw people because for the socialist, it’s all about rigging the economy in ways that keeps them in power. Anyone who can’t or won’t see that by now is terminally stupid and shouldn’t even have a right to vote!

Obamacare DEPENDS on the healthy young forced to buy insurance to defray costs for the sick & elderly. The college professor whining about his hours being cut most likely voted for Zero twice. Approval 41% and going lower.

Just from the sappy way this guy talks you can tell he voted for Obama. And now he has been screwed by Obama’s Obama-Care.

This guy is a State of Virginia government employee. He is getting screwed by another government. By the Federale Government. How many Federale drones, affirmative action hires and porn surfers will get their hours cut to fit into Obama-Care mandates?
The answer will be zero.

“Fulltime” continues to be re-defined by Obammy as businesses lower their workers hours to avoid Obamacare in a limbo style dance. Soon Fulltime will be refefined as 20 hours a week at this rate.

“Democratic volunteers found the entrance to their headquarters blocked by a massive pile of horse manure”
This gesture was emblematic of the oppressive road blocks to business prosperity. Try paying health care business plan cost escalations of 25% last year and 46% this year. And they are advertising and pushing this s*** with public money too.

"Washington Post-ABC News poll finds that the country, which remains deeply divided about the law, is similarly split about the delay in the employer requirement."

When half the country thinks something is bad, it doesn't mean that the country is "deeply divided". It means that the thing is bad....really bad. Note that the examples the ComPost gave were government agencies cutting hours to avoid the law. It isn't the evil businesses doing this, it's the sainted governments.

To quote from the Washington Post story in the OP..."For Kevin Pace, the president’s health-care law could have meant better health insurance. Instead, it produced a pay cut.

Like many of his colleagues, the adjunct music professor at Northern Virginia Community College..."

Class, to review, Northern Virginia Community College is where Dr. Jill Biden teaches and is the institution of choice for the DC media and The NEA to obtain opinions for all things post secondary academic.
