GOP support grows to force shutdown over funding ObamaCare

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said he’s recruited more than a dozen Senate Republicans willing to shut down the government to prevent President Obama’s healthcare law from going into effect.

Lee said the Republicans would block a continuing resolution to fund the government beyond Sept. 30 if it includes funding for ObamaCare.

“This is the last stop before ObamaCare fully kicks in on Jan. 1 of next year for us to refuse to fund it,” Lee said Monday on “Fox and Friends.”

It’s only the right stuff when they prove they have the nads to do it; by doing it. It’s all skittle crapping unicorns until they actually do it.

Gotta start somewhere. I don’t recall anyone in the Senate calling for a shutdown. Lee might start the ball rolling. But he won’t get anywhere if we don’t support politicians who actually want to do the right thing for a change.

This could be a game changer/turning point for Republicans if they are united and resolved. You have to carefully pick you battles; this one appears to be winnable.

The compromise and appease approach to politics has yielded nothing but failure and diminishing political fortunes for Republicans. This is their last big change IMO.

Shutting down the government is terrible politics. It may feel great to some of the flamethrowers here but independent voters hate it. Go through with this and you can kiss the senate and maybe even the house goodbye.

The problem we have today is that too many people are worried what makes good politics and not worried enough about what makes good government.

We’re going broke. Obamacare is but one of many unconstitutional acts which will help push us over the edge.

And I daresay that many of the same independents you say hate shutting down the government hate Obamacare just as much. I’ve yet to see a national poll that shows majority support for it.

Mike Lee and Ted Cruz stand so much taller than the rest of the Republican Senators, you can’t even see the others.

Yes lots of people don’t like Obamacare but if you read the polls some are liberals that don’t like it because it doesn’t have single payer. We gave a good chance now. Read today’s headline in the WSJ. The economy is getting worse. ....No way these exchanges will be up by Oct 1. They haven’t even hired the navigators. The house of cards IIS collapsing. When your enemy is lighting himself on fire stand back. Shutting down the government would be beyond stupid.

for us to refuse to fund it,

He needs to talk to Boehner, currently he is the only person that can defund this mess and if you think he will, then make a campaign donation to Michelle Bachman, oh wait, she gave up trying.

Good for him. WE need about 40 more just like him for a majority.

And no way will the monstrosity known as Obamacare be stopped without cutting out its heart.

We have seen over and over and over again that this government is lawless and its leadership will obey the laws only when it suits them to do so. We’ve gone quite far beyond business as usual.

I will grant you that the Republican Party as a whole is horrible at message control. Therefore should the party actually listen to its conservative wing for a change and place itself in active opposition to the Democrats, failure to manage the message would be problematic.

However, I’ll always advocate smaller government and any legal means to accomplishing that smaller government here.

Do they have to vote to defund? We are still on continuing resolutions. Simply strip out anything relating to ACA and sent the funding bills along.
