McCain: Review Ariz. 'stand your ground' laws
Politico ^ | 21 Jul 2013 | ELIZABETH TITUS

Arizona Sen. John McCain says his home state should review its "stand-your-ground" law in the wake of George Zimmerman's acquittal in the shooting death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

The Republican senator said he trusted the jury's judgment in the case, but added Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union" that the law "may be something that needs to be reviewed."

Does he think that applies to Arizona?

"Yes, I do and I’m confident that members of the Arizona legislature will," McCain said.

He said he did not share Sen. Ted Cruz's view that President Obama's remarks on "stand-your-ground" laws represented another administration approach to gun control.

"I respect his view, but I don’t frankly see the connection," McCain said of his Texas Republican colleague.

Real question: is Tucson AZ actually the kidnapping capital of America? Arizona is a border state & Obama has made our border a sieve, but is this true about Tucson?

Is there some Iron Rule of Sunday News Shows that mandates Jimmy-Jaws McCain must represent the “conservative” viewpoint?

“...Arizona: Review McCain...”

Most likely the post of the day.
He needs to either change over to the communist party or retire.
Either way, he needs to be gone.

He just can’t help himself. He sees an opportunity to stab decent hardworking Americans in the back and he instinctively plunges the knife.

I’m in FL, and I think our SYG law needs changes.

Specifically, I’d like to see every killing subjected to a judicial enquiry to determine the facts of the death. Something similar to the old common law coroner’s inquest.

The death could be ruled justified or not justified. If justified, SYG would go into effect and future prosecutions or civil cases would be barred, unless of course significant new evidence is discovered.

If not justified, prosecutors would make the same decision as now as to whether there is sufficient evidence to take the case to trial.

The problem presently is that prosecutors make the “justified or not” decision, leaving the public perception undetermined between “justified” or “not enough evidence to prosecute.” It also leaves possible future prosecution hanging over the shooter if political pressures or other reasons lead some future prosecutor to reopen the case. Which of course is exactly what happened to GZ.

I also think decisions of this type should not be left up to elected/appointed officials to make a political or administrative decision as to “justification.” For example, it’s not difficult to imagine some racist black prosecutor deciding any and all killings of white people by black people are “justified” and refusing to prosecute.

Which is, of course, what happened in most of America for quite some time to blacks. And I’m opposed to that, too.

“and by how many armed men is Mr McLame protected 24/7/366? At taxpayers’ expense,no less!”

None.

I was at town halls where Senator McCain spoke. There was some security at one, at another, I only saw some local sheriff deputies, and they seemed there mostly to insure order.

I was within 15 feet of Senator McCain each time. It he has security, he is not worried about lone assassins.

No one checked for guns at these town halls, and it was legal to carry them there.

I am appalled by Senator McCain’s positions, but I am pretty sure that he does not get 24/7 security provided by the government.

I would gladly trade Senator McCain for Senator Cruz.

Failing that, any chance of cloning Senator Cruz?

We have open primaries here, and the Democrats wink at him and don’t run real opposition. They don’t have to. He’s one of them.

I don't respect McCain's view, but I don't frankly see the connection between stand your ground laws that were not involved and a strictly self defense case. That is akin to calling for repeal of laws against fraud because someone was charged with robbery. Whatever the issue, McCain can't keep from being wrong about it.

McCain sees himself as one of those indispensable men the graveyards are so full of. I bet he runs again in 2016.

Won’t be long and he’ll be vacationing with Jane Fonda.

Rather see him vacationing with Jimmy Hoffa.

The ‘big government’ agenda is to pass amnesty after the August break. Now consider, how must ‘big government’ placate its separatists groups? Why IF lord McCain does not appear for appearance sake all wrought and uptight over the politicized reaction to a self defense case then one separatist group might get a whiff of what ‘big government’ is about to do to them after Congress takes its August break.

Zimmerman is not the stereotypical visual of a hate filled ‘redneck’... and strangely ‘big government’ had no problems sending ‘stand your ground weaponry’ south of the border? Zimmerman is the stereotypical visual of amnesty! Big government is attempting to make ‘conservatives’ of all ethnicity the devil for things accused without merit or foundation.
