The Insiders: Obamacare is falling apart (Washington Post editorial)
Washington Post ^ | July 19, 2013 | Ed Rogers

Posted on 07/21/2013 5:34:11 AM PDT by Zakeet

As the reality of Obamacare emerges, a disastrous calamity imposed on the American people, even the most compliant members of the Obama fan club are beginning to panic. Three union presidents have sent Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi a scathing letter decrying Obamacare, showing just how out-of-control this law has become. This astonishing reversal has been underreported so far, except by the ever-vigilant Tom Gara in the Wall Street Journal.

The fact is that the crater of Obamacare is getting deeper, with sharper edges. The unions are first-tier political allies of President Obama and the Democratic Party, and it was surely their last resort to put their grievances with Obamacare in writing in the public sphere. A lot must have happened behind the scenes before they felt sufficiently frustrated with the Obama administration to take this step.

In a joint letter, James P. Hoffa of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Joseph Hansen of the UFCW and D. Taylor of UNITE-HERE state that Obamacare will “destroy the 40 hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class” and “destroy the very health and wellbeing of our members along with millions of other hardworking Americans.” And they highlight their buyer’s remorse:

We have been strong supporters of the notion that all Americans should have access to quality, affordable health care. We have also been strong supporters of you. In campaign after campaign we have put boots on the ground, gone door-to-door to get out the vote, run phone banks and raised money to secure this vision. Now this vision has come back to haunt us.

You can feel their anxiety and boiling frustration coming through.

What does falling apart look like for Obamacare, if not this?

Our goal over the next 15 months is to make sure the 2014 elections will not just be a referendum on Obamacare ... and we're finding that it’s not easy to persuade our Democratic allies to stick with our talking points and walk off an electoral cliff!

This outcome of the disaster called ‘Obamacare’ was perfectly clear long before the 2012 elections, yet this same Washington Post kept its mouth shut about it, instead parroting the same lies we’ve heard from this Administration since 2009. If anything, the WaPo should be apoligizing for the role it played in all of this. After all, they were the ones who endorsed this less than one year ago.

It will be interesting to see if what happened off stage is ever revealed

What did happen?

falling apart or not, it is the law and wreaking havoc on the economy as it was designed to do.

The feckless republicans in the house, who supposedly control the purse strings, continue to fund the monster. Until the republicans put the country ahead of themselves, we continue to lose.

I don’t expect any change in the republicans in my lifetime (I am old).

If anything, the WaPo should be apologizing for the role it played in all of this.

My learned guess is that a lot more mainstream media monkeys are going to suffer buyer's remorse over ObamaCare before this disaster is over ... but you're delusional if you think these masters of perfection will even recognize they were at fault, let alone apologize for their stupidity.

One of the huge differences between conservatives and liberals.

Conservatives are more than happy to live under the same laws they want for everyone else.

Liberals expect to be exempted from the laws they expect everyone else to live under.

"What did happen?

They passed the law. They found out what was hiding in its two thousand pages. They discovered it has nothing to do with "health care." The fix is going to be unpleasant. In the extreme. But first, the Devil to pay.

One of the frequently asked questions on the HHS Web site is, “Can I keep my own doctor?” The HHS answer to this question has evolved; currently, the answer is, “Depending on the plan you choose in the Marketplace, you may be able to keep your current doctor.”

Hehehe... hahaha... ho... he...

Rut-roh. I think the joke's on me.

“Liberals expect to be exempted from the laws they expect everyone else to live under.”

Yes, and liberals are very happy to vote for ‘freebies’, as long as the costs are paid for by someone else. They all thought they were going to get free medical care, and that the only people who were going to get hurt were ‘those rich doctors and hospitals and insurance companies etc.’. In the end, they pushed through a law that hurts many patients, and makes money for specific ‘fat cats’ who were in bed with the administration during the planning phases of this disaster. And, overall costs go up, not down.

It is rather ironic - isn’t it?

The most hard core supporters of obama (college kids, blacks and latinos) are getting hammered by the policies of obama.

But they will never learn.

Interesting that the Wa Post describes the debacle of Obamacare as a rejection by the unionts who are the Dem political funding army. The Wa Post doesn’t mention anything about Americans’ health or the quality of American health care. The criterion of failure for the Wa Post is a failure in political support for Dems. This is revealing.

Object lesson: Voters in Detroit over the last few decades.

Am proud to say he is my Senator

Really hope he replaces McConnell as leader

His first act would be stripping the likes of McCain and Graham of any leadership position

I note that 11.2 percent of neurologists, just one specialty area of health care, have recently chosen to leave the profession. That is more than one in every ten of these professionals who spent many years perfecting the ability to treat multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, stroke, and other maladies. The burden of administrative complexity that eats away at the time available to practice medicine is a serious threat to health care in general. However, Obamacare is designed to push the delivery of care down to nurse practitioners and less costly but less knowledgable health care personnel. At the same time, Obamacare pushes quality measurement to counter the lowering of quality of care. It puts the stresses on the backs of the practitioners. Guess whose health care will suffer? In addition, the added patient load and requirements to treat/insure will shift the cost to already overburdened taxpayers and working people. Obamacare doesn’t fit the real world and has been an obvious tragedy from the start.
But, tens of millions voted for this kind of gov’t. There is no one to protect these voters from themselves. Too bad the rest of us get dragged into their debacles.
