A lawyer friend of mine suspects that the Zimmerman trial is a clever trick that has been designed by cunning liberals to strip Americans of their second amendment rights. You all remember Clinton's legalisms in 1998, saying that what happened between him and Monica Lewinsky did not meet the strict legal definition of sex.
According to my lawyer friend, it is easy for sneaky liberals to interpret the second amendment as giving Americans the right to own arms, but not the right to use them. Liberals may have figured out that going door-to-door to confiscate guns is too much trouble. You can just pass a series of laws, and interpret them in such a manner that makes the use of guns illegal. A gun will have no more usefulness than a piece of furniture. In many jurisdictions, it is illegal to fire a gun on a neighborhood, even if nobody gets hurt.
Read Mr. Martin's tragic story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Martin_%28farmer%29
Liberals would love to disarm the law abiding (they know they can’t disarm the criminals) so that we become more dependent on government.
This was neither clever, nor tricky.
The Left will always try to take guns away. This particular situation is just today’s convenient excuse.
” it is easy for sneaky liberals to interpret the second amendment as giving Americans the right to own arms”
Well, not surprisingly, Liberals would be wrong from the start.
The 2A does not GIVE any rights, It affirms rights we are given by God.
The Amendments LIMIT govt. Not the people.
In Britain your semi auto rifle(AR 15 ) has to be set like a bolt action ,cock after every shot
Men do not have the standing to abolish rights given by God.
Even if they tear up the paper and burn the shreds, the right still exists and will be exercised by me.
The Zimmerman trial was SUPPOSED to do that, but it didn’t work out according to the script
Even firing the head of the investigation, who refused to file charges, and falsifying affidavits to skip the grand jury, Obam and holder spending $5million for ‘protests’, and hiding evidence from the defense didn’t work
The Newtown school shooting was a much better opportunity, and not even that worked.
They will never stop seizing ANY opportunity, but I think this was a bad one. It’s all about race, not guns, and I think for the most part it has backfired on them. It stirred up the usual race baiters and Occupiers, but they don’t need stirring up anyway.
Not clever, but repeal 2nd yes.
IIRC, the People’s Democratic Republic of Massachusetts has a law specifically stating that everybody has a “duty to retreat” and surrender their property to an intruder. Only if they can no longer retreat can residents of that state use lethal force to defend themselves.
What really sucks of that the NRA didn’t bother coming to GZ’s defense, and being so narrow sighted didn’t see the gun grabbing coming down the line.
I’m still disgusted over their love affair with Harry Reid.
You need to go back to you Doctor and have your meds’ dosage checked.
I don’t think they have the ability to repeal the 2A, but they never let a good crisis go to waste.
It's obvious from the beginning that this was one of Ubama's "under the radar" gun control initiatives, as evidence byt the DOJ sending community agitators to Sanford to soften things up.
I don’t think the trial was aimed at the second amendment, but I believe the Justice Department is currently trying to figure out how to make defending yourself with a gun and civil rights violation. I believe they are probably going to try to get a ruling that will elevate the use of a firearm to a very high level of force. I think they want to make people scared to use a gun to defend themselves.
The Left will always try to take [our] guns away. This particular situation is just todays convenient excuse.
Please allow my edit.
Before stand your ground can be invoked, there has to be a corresponding ability to LEAVE your ground, and Zimmerman never had that option because he was pinned TO the ground, and had no way to retreat from it.
Zimmerman and other cases that may be like it are just stepping stones, and they only have to last long enough to get one step closer to their goal...the eradication of private firearms.
Just my 2 cents.
more dependent AND non-resistant.
There are several reasons they want disarmament.
+1 for working “backfired” into the conversation.
I’ll say it again, and I know it’s tinfoil hat stuff, the February combination of wall to wall 24/7 gun crimes (Christopher Dorner / LAPD, Alabama guy in the bunker with kidnapped 7-year-old, South African sprinter killed his girlfriend, King Of The Snipers shot at gun range) while Congress and various states were rushing gun control laws just doesn’t seem like a random coincidence to me.
What do liberals think the word "Bear" means?
The dead the it’s grandmother: Barras’ grandmother, Mary Dolan, stated: “It’s not fair that the farmer has got all the money and he is the one that took Fred away.”
This ain’t britton
That's right, the only recourse we have is to report the incident to the Gestapo!
What? Wrong thread?
Much like DOJ’s lawsuit against BMW in south Carolina where background checks (for employment) reflect disproportionately on negros ,so do the background checks for firearm ownership. I can almost hear Holder’s twisted logic now.
This whole charade has been a smokescreen to inflame racial hatred by blacks, push against self protections and the 2ndA, and the left wing’s use of the Pity Party in an attempt to get their childish ways
This was NEVER about “justice” Anyone with a brain (which excludes leftists) knew this wasn’t a case from the get-go.
If they could not achieve this with a school full of dead children, one dead punk in some Florida subdivision ain’t gonna do it for them.
They’re too clever to try to actually repeal it. The trick is to do what DC and Chicago and CA have been doing and trying to do — make it so difficult to get a permit, require expensive “liability insurance”, require expensive “microstamping” of individual bullets, outlaw lead, eliminate Stand Your Ground and other defenses of actually using your gun, etc., that it is “repealed” in all but name.
Got iPhoned. Meant “theif’s grandmother.”
Yeah, the 2nd dosent say to keep arms. Bearing arms means shooting as well so any attempt, to include ammo restrictions would infringe.
The goal of the Zimmerman trial has always been to eliminate the right of citizens to defend themselves.
They talk as if it was about racism or ‘stand your ground’ but that’s not true.
A weapon of any kind is useless if you can’t use it to defend yourself.
No, right thread. That is a quote from the wiki article linked by the OP in the first comment.
Yep, a disarmed people are a compliant people.
The sad reality is that the government has become GOD.
You need to flesh out your theory a bit more. You failed to make a point.
Ping for a read.
In order to move forward with their eliminationist programs, they must silence, disarm and immobilize us.
That’s the game.
The right needs to start every single discussion or argument from the question - When does the state have the authority to deny me the right to protect and defend myself and my family?
I really believe 2014 is going to be as much as a shock as 1994 was to the Dems all in response to their gun control push.
Also I don't know any law abiding individuals that are ready to be be disarmed in any manner.
“Exactly. The fact that Holder says we have a “Duty to retreat” says that he doesn’t think we have any right to defend ourselves at all.”
The racist Holder forgets that Trayvon had as much opportunity to retreat as Zimmerman. He was beating the snot out of Zimmerman. He could have gotten up an walked away.
Both made equally bad choices that resulted in Trayvon’s death.
I don’t think that the politicization of the Zimmerman case started out as a gun control case, but that is what it has evolved into.
Holder is using the totally unrelated, Stand Your Ground laws to draw the White anti-gun Democrats to support the government prosecution of Zimmerman. Holder is using the anti-gun lobby and the Black race baiters as political agitation, going into the Congressional elections. The Obama administration is doing everything that he can to divide the country and stir up partisan animosity, including the battle with Harry Reid over his horrible nominees.
What Obama is doing to the Senate Republicans is the same thing that the Democrats did to Rubio over immigration, force them to betray their base and cave to the Democrat agenda.
The Obama administration has turned into a Clown Posse, led by the Joker, and we don’t have a BatMan to save the day.
Would YOU comply with such a law if you owned whatever piece(s) you wanted? Not I.
Incorrect. Thast was changed some time ago. And BTW...it was Republican Governor Ed King who made that "duty to retreat" part of the law. Thank heaven it was changed.
MA General Laws, Part 4, Title II, Chapter 278, Section 8a:
In the prosecution of a person who is an occupant of a dwelling charged with killing or injuring one who was unlawfully in said dwelling, it shall be a defense that the occupant was in his dwelling at the time of the offense and that he acted in the reasonable belief that the person unlawfully in said dwelling was about to inflict great bodily injury or death upon said occupant or upon another person lawfully in said dwelling, and that said occupant used reasonable means to defend himself or such other person lawfully in said dwelling. There shall be no duty on said occupant to retreat from such person unlawfully in said dwelling.
One, there was nothing clever about the trial.
Two, the trial had nothing to do with guns except that a gun was the tool a man used to defended himself from death or serious injury.
Three. The MSM and Obama over estimated the general public ability to tolerate politic trials. There is extreme hard feeling dis- trust and outright anger that the Government pushed this to a trial.
Yes, and it’s working about as well as Fast and Furious.
