All I do is walk at least 3 times a week 18 holes on different golf courses. Only time I use a riding cart is when the course is very hilly, and temperature is above 77 degrees Farenheit.
Vigorous exercise? That's some definition of vigorous exercise.
“So you dont care if you shorten your possible lifespan by say, 20-30 years by eating crap simply because everyone eventually dies anyway? Wow.”
Personally I don’t eat a lot of crap. You can pretty much figure out what’s good and what’s no good. But I see people getting all worked up and confused by the ever changing official positions on “nutrition”.
And as far as my lifespan goes, every day above ground is a good day. I stopped worrying about my lifespan a long time ago.
You post a link from a company that sells Omega-3 supplements - why? Did you think this is a scholarly, scientific rebuttal? Did you notice that the only citations offered are for the supplement trade association and another supplement manufacturer?
the seaweed they eat is anti-cancer.
Another factoid being neglected is that most low end supplements use soybean oil as a filler. Soybean oil is a major contributor to hormone imbalance and high testosterone to DHT conversion.
The first thing that springs to my mind is that nearly all men get prostate cancer if they live long enough. What was the age spread of the cohort being studied? I’d be the interested in knowing the average age of the cancer suffering omega-3 supplementer compared to the average age of the non-supplementer. Anybody know if the study took into account whether subjects started supplementing while believing themselves in good health versus those who used supplements to correct already present issues (not necessarily cancer)?
Everything in moderation except alcohol and sex and you will live a happy life (largely do to the alcohol and sex).
If true, I’m a goner.
This is where I get my fish oil and the article the owner of the company wrote is worthwhile reading.
Maybe it's a combination of genes and food - or genes and attitude or genes and fetal birth weight... we know so little...
Agree 100% However, I have one concern. And I am not being sarcastic. Quality of life. Yes, we will all perish one day. But our family takes care of a Alzheimer’s patient. I would rather be able to remember my family at age 70. So I am continuing to search and have gotten no rock-solid answer...
I will keep taking mine.
My annual CT following the growth of an aortic aneurysm found a 70-80% blocked kidney artery. My daughter (an ER trauma nurse) told me to take Krill oil. Within 2 years the artery blockage reduced first to 60%, then disappeared altogether. Color me a believer that antioxidants in the omega-3 kill free radicals that cause artery buildup.
As far as I’m aware, nothing reverses artery buildup. Once it’s there it’s always there. Surgery can remove some blockage, and eating healthy foods can slow down further buildup, but there are no foods or exercise that will reduce the blockage that is already there.
This kind of stuff is irritating.
There is a 100% increase in death after birth. Thats not giving birth, but being born. Were gonna die!
Well, if you don’t want to live as long as you can,,,go for it.
Heck, I’ve been taking fish oil and vitamin E for forty years, and I’m as healthy as a ho
The study did not target people who eat fish or take Omega-3 supplements,
True. But they found the ones who had a great increase in prostate cancer risk, everything else being equal, had Omega-3 in their blood. And the main source of Omega-3 is fish.
You might be surprised. The supplement business is no threat to Big Pharma. And think of how this may effect “boutique eggs” such as the ones I buy.
You nailed it.
I get my 3’s from eggs, from chickens that are fed ground flax. Also eat a serving or two per week of fatty fish. And chia seeds for breakfast. I never liked fish oil supplements. Had unpleasant aftertaste.
For a senior like me, dragging my clubs for 7 miles (average walking length on 18 holes) up and down hills 50+ feet high and hitting 40 to 50 shots with all my might (other 40 shots are putts requiring little effort) is quite strenuous. It takes 4 hours and 30 minutes of time. I am exhausted at the end. So it is definitely vigorous exercise in my case. The health benefits I am actually experiencing? Priceless!
What is wrong in just eating fish instead of swallowing pills?
In general, there is nothing that has been proven to actually limit the risk of prostate cancer, said Lowe, who was not involved in the study.
And, you know that because......????
“Had unpleasant aftertaste.”.....depends upon the kind you buy...and quality....and, btw...you ARE aware of the problems with FLAX for some people....right?
Hmmm....I was told nothing could change my small, dense cholesterol issue, too....it was “hereditary”....but, I did....probably with fish oil...and maybe some compounded bio-id hormones...and maybe Niacin...who knows....but, I did.
Alone, the omegas can add free radicals.
E must be taken with them.
What, not enough food for the whales?
That’s why it gets fed to chickens, and then I eat the eggs. Also, I mentioned chia. Did I stumble into the religion forum?
I am surprised on that dosage you didn't start to grow gills.
You never answered my fda question...
I am just being a hardass- Hey, do you take testosterone supplements? I started taking TestX180 from GNC and I like it a bunch.
I take it in the mornign and some days I work all day for forget to eat and feel great
A good nights sleep usually follws
Supplements are worth it!
Take TURMERIC along with common table pepper
Magnesiusm (with Omega3 fish oils)
I used to have the aftertaste problem as well until I tried Omegavia. I never have it now and find it does what it says it does. Whatever world for each of us :)
The Prostate score was so low, the letter addressed me as Ms Appypappy.
I am surprised on that dosage you didn't start to grow gills. You haven't seen my latest vacation picture?
Cinnamon & Turmeric = natural stuff, no bad side effects, and very beneficial. Anything natural food/spices is usually good for you. I do not imbibe in any man made pills, including fish oil pills. Better off taking cod liver oil in liquid form IMO.
you know you are taking enough turmeric if you start having a craving for pepper (instead of salt) on everything
Cinnamon just makes you feel good
Life is an incurable STD.
Works as a definition of Original Sin, too.
I am sure you already know this, that cinnamon is the only substance known which helps reduce high blood sugar levels in diabetics. I sprinkle it on my eggs, tea, coffee, and use it almost anything I cook at home. I am not diabetic but was told I could be pre-diabetic by my doc. As for turmeric, it is the major ingredient in curry powder, so I eat plenty of it because I love curry powder. To get best flavor from curry powder, saute it in hot oil prior to mixing it with food.
And there is no mention of the fact that you can get equally beneficial omega 3 from a non-animal source.... Flaxseed Oil... I wonder what the drive-by mass hysteria media can conjure up on that impeccable source. Wouldn’t put it past them to come up with something.
We’d probably be better served being more concerned with the mercury in the fish oil itself. I personally alternate between fish oil and flaxseed source omega 3 to make sure I always supplement omega 3 regardless of the source. Omega 3 is also a powerful antioxidant, essential to combatting the big three... heart disease, diabetes and hypertension.
I love beef curry
Take some olive oil and heat it in a pan, saute a big spoonful of curry paste
pour in some coconut milk and thats it
for the beef, thin slice almost any beef on a diagonal (even tough chewy beefs are great when slice wafer thin on an angle)
Saute some Onions and Green Pepper, toss in the steak at the last minute and saute quickly for a minute
Put this into your curry/coconut sauce and scoop over rice and eat
Toss on some dried fried french onions (asian markets have huge plastic jars of this- and I love saving the wide-lide clear plastic jars after)
Dang. I’ve been taking fish oil for years, and I have an ultrasound next Monday to see if I have prostate cancer.
Rather than post a list of counter examples (including medications) I'll just give my favorite natural substance, Gymnema Sylvestre.
You got it bro...you are very knowledgeable...you know the magic ingredient in any good curry...coconut milk! Your recipe will work just as great with cut up chicken.
I’ve been taking fish oil for decades and one poorly-done study isn’t going to change my mind.
