It's Time for President Obama to Live Up To His Race-Uniting Promise
Townhall.com ^ | July 16, 2013 | David Limbaugh

Posted on 07/16/2013 3:42:22 AM PDT by Kaslin

On the heels of the George Zimmerman verdict, when this nation deeply needs a tense situation defused and soothing, reassuring words of racial unity, the President and attorney general give us just the opposite.

We desperately need to strive for racial harmony and unity, but our task is exceedingly more difficult when President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder repeatedly invoke race and stir racial tensions.

Trayvon Martin's death was terribly tragic, but Obama's and Holder's racially charged statements (and sometimes actions) are damaging. Even if Obama hadn't promised to be a uniter, he'd have a duty, as do all political leaders, not to stir tension between blacks and whites.

When Obama became a serious presidential contender, I was concerned about his apparent attitude toward race. There were the candid admissions in his books, his long attendance at a race-oriented church and certain statements he had made that indicated racial bitterness as part of his makeup.

All of this was completely at odds with the public image Obama carefully sought to project and with the promise that he would inaugurate a new era of post-racial politics.

The mere suggestion that Obama had racial hang-ups brought condemnation from those who a) love to characterize conservatives as racist, b) believe that, by definition, blacks can't be racist toward whites, c) glow in feelings of self-congratulation when they point the accusatory finger of racism at others, and d) were idealistically invested in the idea that racism would be extinguished upon the election of the first African-American president.

I hoped I was wrong about Obama, but in office, he has steadily removed any doubt. He began employing identity politics from the get-go and encouraging supporters to brand opposition to his policies as racist.

Holder said Americans are cowards on the race issue. Obama let stand the suggestion that many of his opponents have a "subterranean agenda" concerning race. He appealed to blacks and Hispanics in explicitly racial terms, telling them they had to elect Democrats.

In its report to the United Nations Human Rights Council, the administration chastised America as racially discriminatory. It expressly condemned Arizona's immigration law as racist.

The entire liberal establishment has smeared supporters of voter ID laws as racists. Holder attempted to deflect attention from his own wrongdoing over Operation Fast and Furious by saying that his accusers were pursuing him as a way of getting at President Obama because they are both African-Americans.

There is no excuse for the President of the United States and his attorney general to contribute to racial tensions in America, but that is exactly what they have done, whether intentionally (for political gain) or because they just can't help themselves.

When a reporter asked Obama about the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Gates, an African-American friend of Obama's, Obama said the Cambridge policemen who arrested Gates had acted "stupidly," despite admitting he wasn't aware of all the facts.

Concerning Martin, even the Washington Post reported that Obama decided to "assertively insert himself into" the "controversy" when he said: "When I think about this boy, I think about my own kids. ... If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon."

I ask you: Was that a proper statement from a President of all the American people, let alone one professedly committed to uniting the races? How can the chief executive of the United States possibly justify such a racially charged comment, which could have poisoned the jury pool, especially when, as was the case with the Gates incident, he couldn't have known all the facts?

In the wake of the jury's acquittal of Zimmerman, Obama weighed in again, this time exploiting the entire event, just as he had the Sandy Hook shootings, to promote gun control. "That's the way to honor Trayvon Martin," he said, unmistakably signaling that he is still heavily invested in the case as a matter of race.

Then there was the additionally disturbing revelation by the Daily Caller -- and other outlets -- that the Community Relations Service, a division of the Justice Department, "was deployed to Sanford, Florida (in 2012) to provide security for anti-George Zimmerman protests, including a rally headlined by activist Al Sharpton."

So now we have not just our political leaders making overtly divisive statements on race but the administration spending taxpayer money for the purpose of agitation. Just when you think things can't get much worse.

If there is any authenticity in Obama's claims to seek racial harmony in America, now is the time for him to make a 180-degree turn and use his bully pulpit to promote racial harmony. I am under no illusions that he will do so, but I can nevertheless pray that he will.

He’s spent 5 years dividing the country and he’s not going to change his stripes now. In fact he said Holder is in charge of seeing whether or not Zimmerman can be brought to trial in a Federal court. That sounds like revenge, not healing.

Racial harmony is one of the last things the Marxist wants.

In fact, it’s one of the last things the demonic-rat party wants!

I pray that one day soon, the vast majority of the so-called “black community” will wake up to that disgusting fact.

It would be nice—if Obama would remember that promise. I do not believe he has any Desire to bring America together. His thug Eric Holder is as bad as Al Sharpton— or Jesse Jackson They all Need the divisions and the Hatred— or they have no purpose. They secure power by dividing and fomenting racial strife. The Democratic Party has long been All about dividing the Nation. They have no power if We the people grow tired of being slave to the Democratic Party plantation of deception. How will Barry entertain us now? What black rabbit will he pull out of his hat to make Latino voters that might be more than a little angry that this Administration is pushing the race card so hard.Amnesty I do not think could trump the evil charges exploiting the race divide between the Latino and the Black. All of it big dust devil to cover what big LIE of this Administration?

This is reference to an editorial run in Canada Free Press. The Canadians got it right.! Too bad half of the so called conservatives talk show hosts I’ve been listening to can’t seem to be willing to connect the dots to what a heavy hand his imperious highness played in this example of socialist justice meted out to serve the policies of the state . Turning this into a show trial replete with wall to wall tv coverage.

.For certain since the not guilty verdict has been rendered the facts of this case are still being concealed by the media such as pictures of both side by side they look like cousins. The mixed area that Zimmerman was a “watch captain” in was struggling with single and groups of young blacks on the prowl.,In some instances armed, preying on homeowners.in his area..That area wasn’t even examinined because it wouldn’t fit their agenda.. Which if done ,if true journalisim existed, because that might explain his action of surveilance . In many watch areas that’s done frequently when the subject disappears from view.

Even after learning the shooter was a staunch Obama supporter, not Jewish, and a very dark skinned “hispanic” Obama did nothing to curtail the hyperbole or tone down his edict creating this as a racist episode. The socialists controlling the media propaganda machine oblidged.. They began claiming the neighborhood watch captain was a “white hispanic” .or used a picture of a 12 year old Martin instead of the 6 foot 165 pound person he was vs the smaller 140 pound neighborhood watch captain. Worse yet allowed his US Attorney General to use questionable activities to promote a show trial and ignored using a threat of prosecution to black militant groups threatening the watch captain’s life.

Racial harmony is probably impossible, primarily because they refuse to become educated. Until or unless education is deemed “cool,” blacks will never achieve happiness.

While the above is no surprise more than that the progressives (libs) are blaming ‘stand your ground’ laws for this and are talking about repealing those, or at least now marching and protesting against those laws.

They are making the case that those laws are racially biased because blacks are never allowed to use them in court,
and that in the case of FL it was the instructions to the jury that got the acquittal : ‘which told jurors that Zimmerman was allowed to use deadly force when he shot the teen not only if he actually faced death or bodily harm, but also if he merely thought he did.’

I wonder if their suspicion is that the possible fall-out of all this means open season on all the “gangsta’s” out there who daily parade themselves in varying degrees of intimidation. Rather than take a good hard look at what is happening to the hard-wiring of today’s youth with the affects of rap or hard-core metal and ultra-violent movies and video games, the attention on guns and stand-your-ground laws puts the focus on those who try to go about their daily lives not encountering/not offending the over-hyped, judgmentally-challenged youth of today who, for the sin of walking in ‘my ‘hood’ or daring to “disrespect” by making eye-contact, will assail you with a threatening glare or vile words...or worse.

Exactly
I heard some on MSNBC say that because of this everyone’s son going to the store to get Skittles wearing a hoodie is at risk of being gunned down, and that EVERY parent in the USA should be worried about thos precident.

Kids dont were hoodies where I live, not even the black kids. Why dont THEY just call for banning their sale ? Problem solved.

Not everyone’s son who is wearing a hoodie and going to the store to fetch some Skittles and Watermelon drink are under the influence of/habitual users of “Purple Drank”.

That being said, I do talk to my 15 year old [bi-racial] son about his public persona, the attitude he projects and how he wishes to be perceived.

David is being far, far too kind to Obastard. He has promised, and delivered, nothing but racial strife since he first reared his ugly head. I hear people say Bathhouse Barry has set back racial progress 50 years, and I disagree. I'm pegging it at 140 years, to Reconstruction.

And another thing...FTA: Trayvon Martin's death was terribly tragic. No it wasn't. As the evidence that was suppressed at trial shows, George Zimmerman did Florida a huge public service that night by permanently removing one major-league thug from society. Martin was well on his way to a life of savage crime.

The same thing is gradually happening in Newark NJ; they elected Cory Booker by putting together a coalition of various Hispanics, whites, and “others” (overthrowing the black machine candidate, Sharpe James).

Saw 2 interviews with black women demonstrating in Newark; they were from Irvington & East Orange. They don’t have the numbers for a good old-fashioned riot, and they have a black mayor in Newark who is conspicuously quiet because he is trying to attract businesses and taxpayers to Newark (and these demonstrations aren’t helping).
