Union leaders: ObamaCare will “destroy the very health and wellbeing” of America’s working class

Bear in mind that Big Labor went to bat for ObamaCare in a big way throughout the months-long debate over its passage. When Tea Party activists demonstrated to raise opposition to the legislation, unions like the Teamsters counterprotested, sometimes violently, in an attempt to intimidate conservatives into acquiescence. Unions spent big money in the 2010 election hoping to protect Democrats from the consequences of their votes on ObamaCare, arguing that the bill would help the working class by sticking it to insurers and fat cats.

Now that the law is about to be implemented, though, it suddenly looks awful to union leaders like Teamsters president James Hoffa, UFCW president Joseph Hanson, and UNITE-HERE president D. Taylor. The Wall Street Journal published a letter on Friday that the union leaders sent to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi expressing shock, shock that a massive and expensive government intervention would screw up the labor market:

Unions convince their members how to vote and now they are reaping their ignorance.

Or they realize it’s going to take too long to unionize healthcare workers as they were promised or they suspect obamacare won’t even get around to doing that because ... the unions will support obungler etal anyway.

I work in a closed SEIU workplace (a hospital). And the dumbasses I work with want to blame hospital administration for the mess Obamacare is creating. They just can’t or won’t see the connection between their voting behavior and their situation.

Teamsters Applaud Enactment of Health Care Reform

March 23, 2010

Hoffa Urges Senate To Pass Exemptions for Tax on Insurance Plans

(WASHINGTON) – Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa today applauded President Obama and Congress for enacting historic health care reform, providing health insurance to millions of Americans who don’t have it and controlling costs for millions more who do.

Hoffa urged the Senate to swiftly pass a companion bill to the House measure that includes President Obama’s proposal to exempt all Americans from an excise tax on health care plans until 2018.

“It was critical that Congress pass this bill to help get our economy moving again,” Hoffa said. “High health care costs are burdening our employers and taking away our competitive edge in the global economy.

“The Senate should follow the House’s lead and spare everyone from the proposed tax on health insurance plans. It doesn’t make sense to tax workers who already pay more for health care because of factors they don’t control – like insurance companies with regional monopolies or the demographics of the group they’re in. The Teamsters will continue to fight against this unreasonable tax.

“As originally proposed, 80 percent of the people affected by the excise tax would not be members of unions. We fought against this tax on behalf of all working people – union and nonunion – because it was the right thing to do.”

Much of the health care reform legislation won’t take effect until 2013, including the requirement that everyone obtain health insurance. But immediate changes will take place now that the bill has been signed by President Obama.

The Affordable Health Care for America Act:

•Requires health plans that offer dependent coverage for children to make it available up to age 26;

•Creates a temporary reinsurance program to help companies that provide early retiree health benefits for people ages 55-64;

•Forbids insurance companies from excluding coverage for children because of pre-existing conditions;

•Prohibits insurance companies from cancelling policies when a person gets sick;

•Provides a $250 rebate for all Part D enrollees who enter the donut hole (Between $2,700 and $6,154 in total costs);

•Gives immediate access to coverage for people with pre-existing conditions;

•Eliminates lifetime and annual coverage limits.

Hoffa's a party-line stooge who, you probably recall, campaigned for Kerry in 2004, claiming Kerry was in favor of drilling the ANWR. This is just a CYA move to cling like the dingleberries they are to the ass-hair of union office.

Amazing how a minority of uninsured became a national overhaul of our entire health system. It’s now a socialist’s dream- crap-care but, everybody is paying in. From each according to his ability, to each, according to what the death panel dictates.

Unionist are collectivists, ergo communists. Every public union must be destroyed and the private ones left to fend for themselves.(A free market will send them to the dustbin anyway.)

What I earn should go toward paying for my retirement- not someone else’s just because they belong to a public union. They can put aside something as I do, or not, their choice. My taxes should go for national defense and other legitimate functions- not social welfare programs. If followed correctly, our system would prevent the need for all of the social spending (that’s bankrupting us).

We already have too much government and that’s why we’re unable to succeed. Obama is determined to pile on more. The last-best-hope are the states who can choke this Fedzilla at their borders. Together, they can force changes in Washington that will restore sovereignty to themselves and the individual via the 3/4ths requirement to amend our basic laws. Obama, Holder, McCain, Rubio, and other RINOs need a swift kick in the nuts and the states are our last hope of delivering one.(The Supremes are not immune- some are just nutless under the robe).

My state, California, will not help as it’s run by parasites who will accelerate wealth re-distribution in a fatal attempt to keep itself out of the Detroit column, but it won’t work- it is the problem. What needs to happen is for governors to pull a weapon and defend themselves against the nose breaking, head crushing effects that Obama&Co. are delivering.

Obama himself said that he could have been Trayvon 35 years ago. Well, he is today- he’s on top of the states pummeling them MMA style with Eric Holder cheering him on all the way. We’ll wait to see if a Zimmerman exists among our state leaders with the guts to end this attack. Till then, all those cries for ‘Help!’ may go unanswered. I think as Americans, we can do better than this. Left and Right must see the danger and do the right thing— ‘pull the trigger’. Our life, our country, and our children’s future depends on it. This is the Land of Liberty, not Chicago Thuggery. Of thee I sing.

Your profound comment qualifies as a profound essay in my book!!!

It's gotten so bad, so fast that any "Zimmerman" should be "pulling the trigger" out of fear, not necessarily from courage for the good of the country and the shrinking of the GovernMental monstrosity!!!

I certainly could find nothing in what you said to disagree with and I thank you for saying it.

Now, with that said, don't be blowin any smoke up the hill toward me from wildfires, cause if'n I pee in the American River, it'll be filtered out after flowing over the 7th rock on it's way down to you guys, right???
