My week in the man desert: In some parts of Britain, 70% of children live without fathers
Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 09:15 EST, 11 July 2013 | Yasmin Alibhai-Brown

A sparkling clean canteen in a community center, where families talk quietly over their sandwiches. At the counter, a fight breaks out between five young men. The cook tries to calm the men down and asks them to leave, but it gets nastier—chairs are thrown; a knife is produced. “See them? How angry they be?” an older man sitting outside says to me. “Not one of them ever knew their fathers.” …

Areas such as Ladywood, an inner-city corner of Birmingham, are utterly dominated by single-parent families. And the effects are devastating. … The area has the highest number of people claiming unemployment benefits in the country, and those who are in work are struggling to pay the bills: some 48 percent of households here have an annual income of less than £15,000 ($22,654.50). …

While fatherlessness may be the norm in Ladywood, the impact of it should not be underestimated. American researchers have found that a girl’s self-esteem is seriously undermined by not having a father in her life. Many abandoned boys engage in delinquent behavior, incapable of managing their anger, and some studies reveal links between fatherless men and sex crimes. …

I started to put our two year old grandson in his stroller, and my husband said “no, he can climb in himself.” My husband had taught him and our grandson was very proud. Male influence.

"Well how about diversity of gender in one’s parentage, as in one of each gender?"

Exactly! We absolutely have to get behind this humane, enlightened and progressive revolutionary concept --- we'll call it "Transgressing the narrow mono-gender paradigm and exploring the limits: time to courageously embrace gender-diverse parenting."

Course I hate to use the word "gender" even satirically. "Gender" means something in grammar, but means nothing very definite as far as humans are concerned.

What word can we use?

How about good old "sex"?

I speak as though to them, on their level, of course. Sex is a perfectly good word.

You may think you kid... they ain’t, about this “transgressing” stuff. It would be one thing if they were talking about a leeway to make undesired but practically unavoidable mistakes in empirically learning the best path. Theologically that’s called grace. But they are talking about sinning for sinning’s sake. That’s wickedness.

“Chosen.” It just means you have no actual rights or even interests, let alone “sanctity” of your own. Your existence depends on somebody else’s consumer interest in you as a lifestyle accessory, and not as the spontaneous fruit of a marital union, sacred to God and open to Life.

Don't need a man no more to raise a family. Just go on the welfare check and let the gub'mint provide.

Feminists and liberals, your perfect world is being realized.

Yes -— wickedness. Or, as they say, “Pride”.

Well I beg to differ at least with this particular construction. The speaker may have happened into the phrase, but it is Yorkshire. Oh, what ungrammatical fools we be.

‘If your mum, aunties and all your friends’ mums are single mums, it’s normal. My kids think it’s normal,’ she says. ‘They think dads are people you don’t know or see every other weekend.’

Bianca, who didn’t meet her own father until she was 13, says: ‘Lamiah’s not bothered that he’s not around. She doesn’t know him - he was never there.’

Bianca, who is on benefits...

-------------------------------------------

"Benefits" = welfare.

If you subsidize something, you get more of it.

So were gay and progressive, until they were stolen and dirtied.

blacks there too. What to make of that?

This particular neighborhood seems to be largely black, but England has a huge white welfare class as well. They call it the YOB culture [BOY spelled backwards]. It's a predictor of what will happen in America as the welfare state performs its magic.

Remember the class system that is still in place in that country. The “King’s English” was never spoken by the commoners, as I understand.

Think “My Fair Lady.”

The welfare state is designed to break up families. The woman keeps the kids, she gets more money for more kids but the real kicker is she gets less money perhaps none if she is married.

/./////

Sounds ominous if it is all by design.

I guess the goal is to make the “the state” the “Big Daddy?”

I venture that C. S. Lewis nailed it well when he said that pride was what other sins, other vices come from. Pride was why Eve, then Adam, fancied themselves capable of living rather than dying in a world where they were their own personal mainstays and umpires rather than doing what they had done before, which is listen to the voice of God and carry on as He wanted. But the choice to hate God was made possible because we could not be lovers, only robots or puppets, otherwise. It’s a deep subject and one that can only be truly appreciated in the context of undergoing salvation after having been embroiled in rebellion and its blindness. All the theology in the world means little without actually walking it, as I have begun to.

Basically, I’m not immune to acting in pride and neither is anybody else on this globe, because we’re now sinners all needing saving grace to the end.
