He did. I never met the man, and he was lousy to my grandmother, leaving her to take up with another woman, but he had quite the life. He was born in around 1870 (I'd have to look it up), was taught horsemanship by Indians while growing up in Nebraska, and worked for a detective agency before joining the Secret Service. In their employ he served on the White House detail for Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson. I have photos of him with those men. He headed the Seattle office at one point.

He caught many counterfeiters, murderers, thieves and other crooks. My grandmother spent the first six months of her married life under an assumed name as he worked a case. He helped plan security for Japanese Admiral Togo's visit to the U.S. in 1911.

My mother supplied copies of old photos of his to the SS historian back in the 1980s because they had so few in their own collection from his era. I have a few stories from his life, but I wish I had more.
