Sounds like the manager is a wimp and didn’t like the employee taking charge of a situation that he wouldn’t take care of...seeing this alot in management - they are there to take up a spot and do nothing else...the woman is better off seeking employment somewhere else...hopefully the canine escapes a stupid owner and finds a better one as well...
That’s very nice of you to impart such a gift...we need more gift giving of that nature! Perhaps giving such gifts - those idiots will be overwhelmed by such generosity - they will stop being stupid...now, where did I leave my hammer....

There’s more to this story. And some of it is between the lines.
The story reads that the called the SPCA right off and LATER confronted the owner. That was stupid. After calling the SPCA she should have kept her mouth shut and become invisible. She was probably angry and wanted to read the owner the riot act. Understandable, but foolish.
No one is stupid enough to think it’s safe to leave a dog in a hot car like that. It’s just plain criminal, they just don’t care. Confronting that man was pointless.

Anyone know what the temperature was that day and time when the incident took place? It’s one thing if it was noon ant the temperature was 80 heading up and another if it was 8 pm and 70 with the sun setting. It is the sun’s energy that heats up the car above the outside air temperature and to a minor extent the dogs body heat.
Don’t meddle and expect your employer to keep you.
She should have reported to her boss.

She could have called the ASPC and then let them handle it. In our county the cops come and bust out the windows of a car with a dog in it in hot weather, and the owner is subject to arrest. (And no, they don’t shoot the dog.) Usually, however, it’s enough for the owner just to have to confront the damage his stupidity has caused and get a tongue-lashing from everybody. There’s no need for an employee to march out into the parking lot and confront the owner, no matter how great the owner’s stupidity. He’s going to have to fork out for the deductible on car repairs as it is.
Me, I’d bust out the windows myself if the cops couldn’t get there fast enough. But around here they do, thank goodness.
I worked at Walmart for a short while, nights. A long time, and good, night supervisor (8 years or more) followed a shoplifter out of the store, got the plate as he drove off. Called the cops.
He was fired the next morning at 8am when the store manager came on duty.

This kind of story is repeated day in and day out. NO negative contact was allowed. Period.
In Houston you just call the cops. It is against the law to leave your dog closed up in your car with no a/c.
I just call the police when I see that. Morons.
There is no argument on that, my take on the article was that they felt the employees termination was wrong. I am simply saying:
1. If she was in uniform she was de facto representing Walmart.
2. We don’t know the manner in which she confronted this person.
Leaving a dog in sealed car, especially on a hot day reprehensible.
Confronting someone on Walmaart property in a Walmart uniform?, probably cause for termination.
Wish you’d been there the day I got off the Harley and went in Borders looking for the woman who’d left her little foo-foo dog to roast.
She wouldn’t acknowledge the manager’s store page regarding the dog so I went looking for her, even though I didn’t know which person was her.
While I was stomping around the back of the store asking everybody if it was their dog, she bolted out the front and took off before I could get hold of her.
In my area, cops are slow to respond.
Years ago we found a GSD in extremis in a Walmart lot.
He was hysterically trying to bite his way out of the car-oven and the whole outside of the car was running with his blood.
Once again, nobody answered the page and we had to keep offering the dog ice water while waiting for the cops to show up...15 minutes later.
They knocked out the window.
I have no idea what happened with that.
Unless it’s to the vet, my dogs stay home all summer.
Too many things can happen.
What if my AC suddenly stops working, far from home?

She could have protected the dog and saved her job simply by breaking the guys car windows.
My dog(s) stay home in the summer, too. He doesn't like it, but just the fact that he's with me means I can't run any errands or go into a store except for the feed store and tack shop. If I want to stop somewhere else, I can't. I'm also concerned that if my car breaks down or something, we would have to walk home. I take him with me in the winter and late fall, however, and it's amazing how warm the car is on a sunny day, with light coming in the windows. He doesn't have much fur but he's perfectly comfortable being locked in the car in January for a few minutes.
