Energy Department: Global warming made Hurricane Sandy worse

The latest evidence that climate change is already causing massive damage

Extreme weather patterns spawned by global warming are a serious threat to the nation's energy infrastructure, according to a new report from the Department of Energy, and their destructive effects are already being felt nationwide.

"Increasing temperatures, decreasing water availability, more intense storm events, and sea level rise will each independently, and in some cases in combination, affect the ability of the United States to produce and transmit electricity from fossil, nuclear, and existing and emerging renewable energy sources," the report states.

In the most striking example, the report says climate change contributed to last year's powerful Hurricane Sandy, which ravaged the Northeast, closing ports, pipelines, and oil refineries, and knocking out power to some 8 million customers. And, the report warns, future storms will only get worse.

Since there is no global warming since 1992 or so, what they’re saying is that NOTHING made Sandy worse.

Well see, then MAN is to blame because in the 1970s we were headed for a new Ice Age and we took steps to avoid that and WHOA Nelly, WE OVERCORRECTED!!! Man’s fault. Clearly.

The DOE was created to achieve energy independence, not work on weather issues. The link between this weather event and energy independence is tenuous at best. The DOE has failed at their mission and the agency should be sunset out of existence.

Ridiculous assertion. Did global warming contribute to the powerful Galveston hurricane of 1900, or the 1938 New England hurricane, which was far worse than Sandy?

Or how about the Great Hurricane of 1780 that killed 22,000 people with winds of over 200 mph?

I guess the hidden nugget is this came from the Energy Dept. Probably because no one at the National Weather Service wanted to trash their future career reputations for this.

Hurricane strength is partially a function of the difference between air temperature and ocean temperature... the colder the ocean, the stronger the hurricane.

Global warming would make the oceans warmer, leading to weaker hurricanes.

“Well see, then MAN is to blame because in the 1970s we were headed for a new Ice Age and we took steps to avoid that and WHOA Nelly, WE OVERCORRECTED!!! Man’s fault. Clearly.”

Which begs the question, “what is the game plan for correcting the over correcting and what happens if you over correct again?” “ And how is giving money to Al Gore and his buddies going to prevent over correcting?”

Two questions no one has asked since we over corrected.

Until I hear one of these supposed scientists including the work of Edward Lorenz, strange attractors, and resonances in their computer models, they’re more like snake oil salesmen than they are scientists.

The left treats global warming, er, climate change (an amorphous term) like a dog with a bone. Despite scientific evidence that disproves it and the fraud that was uncovered in the supposed scientific 'studies' on global warming they simply ignore all that and pretend that we're all gonna die because we drive SUV's and like our homes warm in the winter.

We know the 'climate change' scam is intended to justify huge new taxes and to cripple the oil and coal industries, who are a target of the left. That the Obama administration remains oblivious to the fact that there is no demonstrable 'global warming' yet puts out these 'sky is falling' releases shows us the utter contempt these people have for us. Well, as far as I'm concerned, that contempt is mutual.
