First it was imploding peripheral bond markets, now Europe is closing off the weak with even worse news, following reports of a burning Ethiopian Airlines plane in Heathrow as well as news of a commuter train crash in Paris with numerous trapped and 8 dead according to Parisien. Hopefully this is not an indication of what happens to global infrastructure when corporations ignore their maintenance CapEx for 4 years in a row.

Breaking news from the BBC: Heathrow shut after Boeing Dreamliner 787 fire

Runways at London's Heathrow airport have closed after an incident involving an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet.

Arrivals and departures were suspended after the incident at 16:30 BST, a spokesman for the airport said. No passengers were aboard at the time.

Fifty Dreamliners worldwide were grounded in January because of battery malfunctions.

Boeing later modified the jets with new batteries.

In April an Ethiopian Airlines Dreamliner - said to be the plane involved in the Heathrow incident - flew from Addis Ababa to Nairobi on the first commercial flight since the grounding.

Pictures of the Heathrow fire on Twitter show an aircraft close to a terminal building surrounded by fire vehicles. London Fire Brigade said its crews were standing by to assist Heathrow staff.

Okay, I'll bite. How and why does a country with an average population income of barely $500/year buy, let alone operate and maintain a 787?

Are emigrants their largest export?

From the Daily Telegraph (UK): Train crash near Paris: 'many casualties'

A train has derailed in the Paris suburb of Bretigny-sur-Orge in an accident that has caused "many casualties", according to authorities.

The Paris prefect's office said a "red alert" plan had been activated and the interior ministry confirmed the accident, but no further details were immediately available.

The crash involved a rush hour inter-city train which crashed at around 5pm local time on Friday in the suburb of Brétigny-sur-Orge in southern Paris. It was heading for the city of Limoges in western France.

SNCF's Jean-Paul Boulet said that the train was carrying some 350 passengers when it derailed at 5.15 local time. He said that four carriages piled up. He could not say whether there were any casualties.

It was unclear how many casualties there were but Le Parisien said at least eight people were killed. Many of the wounded are apparently still stuck in the trains unable to move. The report says some passengers were electrocuted and crushed.

It's called globalism. Just surrender your nation's sovereignty to the financial oligarchy - and then finance it ! Woo-hoo !

Do you know if the airplane either needed the fix or had the fix applied?

Well, none of them were supposed to be flying without the fix being in place. Of course, given what airline it is, anything is possible.

That is what I was thinking. (shudder)

“Here you are, Mr. rlmorel. This was the only flight we could get for you in the next week...”

Ethiopian Airlines...Gah!

Next comes the massive cancellations of pending orders for the 787. Boeing jumped the shark with the 787, watch orders for the AB350 to go thru the roof.

Assumes facts not in evidence. Fire appears to have occurred in/near the crew rest compartment.
