Who cares? The US is far and away the Dominican Republic's largest trading partner. In fact, 75% of the DR's trading revenues come from trade with the United States. Every major industry, from tourism, to sugar, to mining, to manufacturing is dominated by US firms and by trade with the US. The DR will accept whatever Ambassador the US sends it. Not exactly a relationship between equals here...

I would guess that Obama appointed Brewster as ambassador to the DR based on his contributions to Obama’s never-ending campaign. The fact that Brewster is openly ‘gay’ was probably not the sole reason for his appointment but I’m sure that it didn’t hurt his chances, either. I hope the DR government refuses Brewster. It might be one of the very few times anyone ever says ‘no’ to King Obama.
