The judge in George Zimmermans murder trial had a contentious exchange with one of Zimmermans defense attorneys Wednesday when he repeatedly objected to her asking his client whether he planned to testify in his own defense.
Judge Debra Nelson reminded Zimmerman that he was not required to testify, but when she asked whether he would like to, defense attorney Don West cut in, I object your honor. Nelson overruled his objection before asking again.
I object to that question West repeated.
Overruled! The court is entitled to inquire of Mr. Zimmermans determination as to whether or not he wants to testify, Nelson said.

This judge is a huge POS..she is practically begging Zimmerman to testify..she is salivating for it..just shows what side she is rooting for..Zimmerman would be an absolute fool to testify, he has already won the case
The obviously liberal (and therefore sleazy and untrustworthy) judgess is worried that she may have to undergo some Obamadork Chicago “justice” if she doesn’t succeed in throwing this case.
Obama is slime.
And so, for that matter, is she.
I object to that question. What possible reason does the judge have to ask that?
That question should be asked when the jury is not present.
This judge is a piece of work. It’s like she’s circumventing Zimmerman’s legal counsel inquiring into this.
It’s a type of intimidation.
Good..he is not going to testify, smart choice
Indeed. It’s clear the judge knows this one is lost and the only shot the judge and the prosecution team (and they are a team) have is to get Zimmerman to screw up.
I have NEVER seen a judge so in the tank for one side as this, especially when being watched.
I think she has eyes on higher office and knows that if she is a complete ass, the Democrat higher-ups will appoint her to something.
The defense has not concluded nor rested their case and she is asking this now? Total BS!!
I certainly hope that exchange wasn’t in front of the jury.
If Zimmerman is convicted, the judge asking that question in front of the jury will likely trigger to events:
1. A new trial for Zimmerman and
2. Discipline for the judge
because the question could poison the minds of the jurors.
The judge looks like Ozzie Osborne with blonde hair.
The judge looks like Ozzie Osborne with blonde hair.
She might be..you can just tell she is in the tank for the prosecution..but on the other hand, during the Casey Anthony trial, the judge seemed to be pro prosecution, sustaining most of the arguments the defense wanted and they still got Casey off so I guess anything is possible here
What a nasty piece of work she is.
I bet her husband sleeps on the couch....if she’s even married.
“No Judge, given your obvious bias against me, I don’t plan to testify beyond all the information I’ve previous supplied in various forms.”
That’s probably grounds for appeal right there if she did it in front of the jury. But since I doubt Zimmerman will be convicted then it’s pretty much a moot point.
Pigs should not wear black robes. It makes their snouts look funny...
“If Zimmerman is convicted, the judge asking that question in front of the jury will likely trigger to events:

I’m with you. This has appeal written all over it if it goes south for Zimmerman.
Or she is trying to make the point to the jury that he is not testifying, over and over again. She did everything except say, "Well if you are innocent, what do you have to hide?"
Increadible. The defense had not even finished calling witnesses. If Zimmerman were to say one thing now, and change his mind later, in response to the witnesses yet to be called, what is the jury to do with that information?
The judge should direct her questions to Zimmerman’s attorney, that’s why he’s there!!
Absolutely. Focusing that much attention on the defendants decision as to whether to testify, especially when there were more defense witnesses to call, would be reversible error in any court in the country.
Ohhhh REALLY? Where? All that I've seen supports Zimmerman's claims 100%.
After seeing a photograph of the subject, it is my professional opinion that this is a man masquerading as a woman. Kinda like a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
As always, Sarah, I agree with YOU. She was practically telling him he had to testify! She wouldn’t let it drop.
I wish Zimmerman would have said, “Not if you are going to ask the questions”?
I think the jury was out of the room.
Doesn’t matter. There was never a case. The cops proved that from the outset.

“I certainly hope that exchange wasnt in front of the jury.”
If it wasn’t in front of the jury, there would be no objection.
I don't think so. Other sources have indicated that the jury saw the whole thing.
If the jury was out of the room, I don't have much of an objection. It makes the Judge looks like an idiot, but that ship has sailed a loooooong time ago on this trial.
But if the jury saw it, it is a huge problem.
I remember when the judge asked Casey Anthony if she was going to testify or not, he asked her, she said NO and that was it..with this judge she had to ask over and over and over again..he said NO end of story
Just like I told her to do.
Why not? Any lawyer would object to a judge trying to get their client to commit on this issue with more witnesses left to call whether it was in front of the jury or not.
Your Honor, with all due respect, if you're going to try my case for me, I wish you wouldn't lose it.
I believe the jury was NOT in the room during all of this..they had already left
The lawyer should have used Brendan Sullivan's famous line from the Ollie North Congressional Hearings... "What am I, a potted plant?"
It is beyond outrageous. This judge should be ripped from the court room and taken outside to be tarred and feathered.
The rule of law is dead in this once great Republic.
The only worse one I've seen was the judge in the Newman movie "The Verdict".
