Egypt’s PM to offer Muslim Brotherhood ministerial posts
France 24 ^ | 07/09/2013

Egypt’s newly appointed interim prime minister Hazem el-Beblawi is to offer ministerial posts to members of the Muslim Brotherhood and to the hardline Islamist Nour Party, state media said on Tuesday.

“There is no objection at all to including members of those two parties in the government,” a presidential spokesman said.

The announcement followed el-Beblawi’s appointment as prime minister in a transitional government, as the authorities sought to steer the country to new parliamentary and presidential elections.

Adli Mansour, acting head of state since massive demonstrations ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi out of office last week, also appointed former UN nuclear agency chief Mohamed ElBaradei as deputy president, responsible for foreign affairs, subject to approval from Egypt's political parties. …

Everybody in Egypt realizes that their economy is tied to the ancient Egyptian artifacts and buildings. Morsi put governors and ministers in charge of sensitive areas. Those men had spoken publically about the need to destroy all of the pre-Islamic antiquities. This was probably a huge boost to the recent coup as destroying these buildings would be economic suicide. So, as long as they make them Postmaster General and Surgeon General, there’s no problem. But they can’t put them where they would do harm. (But, then, I’m not an Egyptian politician and politicians tend to see a different reality from the rest of us.)

Mansour and el Beblawi are already on the Brotherhood’s top ten list. This coup was a huge mistake. The huge demonstrations had already checked Mursi and his program. The Generals feared that they would be purged as their counterparts in Turkey were purged by the Islamists. Maybe so but they have made a martyr of Mursi and gave those jolly fellows in the Brotherhood the mantle of righteous indignation. Egypt will become unstable due to civil disruptions, violence and terrorism. It is already destitute and will become poorer. What’s more since the United States is the paymaster of the Egyptian army, Americans will be blamed for whatever happens there. Time to really respect George Washington, take his advice, and not get entangled in the internal affairs of foreign countries

My guess is that the devil is in the details. The new leaders in Egypt are not fools, and they know what they have to do to appease liberal elements in the US and Europe...but they will not allow ISlamic Fuundamentalist to rerail their country again.

Most truly dangerous Muslim Brotherhood harliners have already been detained and arrested.

I bet any remaining who end up getting appointed will have already been vetted and had it made it clear to them that they are going to be under a microscope with a 105mm rifled tank barrel on the other end.

In addition, they will be put where they can do the least harm...like Minister of Sand Dollar Collections on the Mediterannean Coast.

Oh? The general el-Sisi is a fundamentalist. The Nour Party is Salafist, and an initial supporter of Morsi’s deposement. Deputy PM El-Baradei openly declared that he would take Egypt to war with Israel if he led the country. The National Salvation Front is a very interesting collection of radicals, too.

Egypt is not a homogeneous Islamic society. The real Islam absent the zealot wackos was in the streets demanding an end to the fundamentalist insanity.

Sorry, I know a lot of Egyptians in and out of the Military, there in Egypt, both Coptic Christian and Muslim as well, and what you are saying is simply not true.

They did not revolt against Morsi because he was too “moderate,” they revolted against him because he was leading them to absolute fundamental Islam and war with Israel.

Perhaps those things are what you think, but it is certainly not what I am told by those I know on the ground there, and US military personnel who have trained their military.

And when choosing between those I have personally known for years, and these things you are saying...well, it is easy for me to choose which I believe.

They voted for absolute fundamentalist Islam. Unless you are accusing them of all being too stupid to know what the Muslim Brotherhood are about?

Was the video where they were all chanting “To Jerusalem we go, martyrs in the millions” faked or something?

If the vast majority of Egyptians were not as radical as I and others claim, then they would not have had a problem with Mubarak and his planned dynasty staying in power.

Many had no problem with Murbarak. Others did, particularly that element supporting the Muslim Brotherhood whom Mubarak justifiably (IMHO) was very committed to not allowing to come to power. This so-called "Arab Spring," was a set-up all along, perpetrated and supported by the Obama administration in Egypt.

Having said that, there are clearly millions who did support Morsi. Other millions at the time believed he would be more moderate.

Now it is much later and it is clear that Morsi is a radical and that he is corrupt and seeking to implement fundamental and extreme Islam in Egypt on the people...so they revolted against him...by many more millions than what occurred the first time.

Obama and the his administration are not guiltless in this at all. They threw Mubarack under the bus, and openly supported the Muslim Brotherhood and Morsi, filling the air waves with propaganda about how they were not extreme, and how they would govern as moderates. A lot of people there, and even here believed their lies and propaganda.

Now all of that has come undone and been proven to be the lies and propaganda they always were, and the Egyptian people, supported by their military have put an end to it.

Good for them. I pray they can continue and control those elements and reestablish a stable society that keeps the peace with its neighbors, and can once again (once we rid ourselves of our own corrupt administration) be allied with and working with the US.

But, if I were Egypt, I would be very careful and wary of anything Obama and his administration proposes or says until they are out of office and a more traditional, patriotic, American administration takes their place.

The Muslim Brotherhood is fundamentalist, hardcore, Islamic political organization. Despite what the media says they are bent on sharia law wherever they take over. Knowing this, two questions arise. One, why is Soetoro hell bent on supporting them and seeing them in charge? Second, how much influence did he have on this? Did he strong arm the generals, threaten to cut them off the US taxpayer teat, if they didn’t allow the MB in? Given the influence the MB has on the Soetoro admin, what other middle eastern pies does he have his fingers in? Hussein makes he Manchurian Candidate look like Mr Bean..

All of that is very true, and really the questions shouldn’t be open.

Meanwhile, Mansour, Sisi and Beblawi have made this particular move. Sisi is a well-known Islamist; Beblawi is most likely an Arab Socialist; Mansour’s history is more clouded.

I've watched you over the years (even met you at some FR function) and believe you're a very smart man. I hope you're right. I hope it isn't a case of the new leadership simply trying to appease to get their billion dollars from the USA. Appeasement leads to submission and sometimes war or further war.

I would like to see Egypt go secular. It has so much amazing history that world should continue to experience. Of course, with their current situation, I wouldn't book a holiday to Cairo for $20. Actually, you would have to pay me $5000 at least to go to that country. And then, I would spend about $2000 on black covert body guards (think former SEALS, Delta, SF, Rangers, etc.)

Nope, this is a smart move. The MB have a demographic in Egypt. If you zero out their power you have a civil war. This is a smart strategic decision. Don’t overreach like the MB did.

Nice and easy. Arrest, try and imprison/execute the violent radicals and force the MB into being a political party.

That’s kind of what I’m thinking, although maybe I’m in the minority here. Throw them a bone with some harmless position—not for the sake of the MB, but for the crowd in the street. It’s like that movie Thank You For Smoking. The goal in a debate isn’t to win over your opponent; the goal is to win the audience. Plus this way, if the Army needs to crack down further, nobody can say that the Army didn’t at least try for reconciliation.
