Rick Perry, the longest-serving governor in Texas history, said Monday he won't seek re-election in 2014.

The staunch Christian and fiscal conservative said he will instead spend the remaining 18 months of his term guiding Texas through innovation and job creation. However, Perry did not rule out a second Republican presidential run.

“Lots of fawning over AG Greg Abbott. Thoughts?”

I called him for VP on a ticket with Paul Ryan 5 years ago.

"The man is a walking caricature and my favorite Jewish cowboy."

:-)

I met him too at a political meeting in Austin where he spoke. He's a down-home Texas cowboy with a folksy intellectual streak who isn't PC and makes no apologies. Jewish or not, that's pure independent Texan attitude.

From IMDB:

Lead singer/songwriter of "The Texas Jewboys."

Named "Male Chauvinist Pig of the Year (1974) by NOW for his song, "Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed."

Nugent would get my vote.

I'd rather see Cruz stay in the Senate for a while - perhaps the best, if not the only voice of reason (A.K.A. wacko bird).

I’d like to see Cruz in the WH. He seems to be a viable candidate to start cleaning out the mess in DC. I’ll have to research Abbot, but Nugent as Gov could be a good choice too.

Um.......how about Ted...”

Too bad we can’t clone Cruz. But I think he needs to stay in D.C. Whole lot more people there to tee off. Too bad he doesn’t have much help. Nuge for Governor? Why not.

Governor Goodhair is leaving. I do know that Abbot has to use a wheelchair thanks to a tree branch falling on him while he was jogging. I don’t know much else, other than that he was once on the state Supreme Court.

It makes no sense to make taxpayers fund illegals’ education so they can work in agriculture. They won’t be picking fruit with a college degree.

There are three reasons Perry isn’t going to run again.

1) He’s considering another run for the White House.

2) He’s had his fill of Austin.

3) Ooops. I can’t remember the third reason.

Sorry.

No, he's just got this list of about 280 "special friends" who each donate huge bucks to his campaign funds, and he listens to them almost exclusively.

Perry's only skill seems to be finding wealthy donors and running a well-oiled political machine. Just the sort of "old boy" crony network that rots politics to the core. Let's hope Texas gets somebody better to replace him. I haven't really followed Abbott's politics closely, but a new face will be a good thing in itself.

As for Perry's presidential ambitions, I guess the only good thing that can be said for that is that he's not Jeb Bush.

And they all want dirt-cheap wages and lots of Mexicans and Guatetecs flooding across the border so they can hire cheap with no bennies, no insurance, -- hell, no Social Security, cash only, totally off-the-books. Yeah, a free-market economy is a wonderful thing, if you can hire 100% illegals who can never say "no" or "I'd like a raise".

What do you expect from people for whom contentment is packing two families of ten into a tin roof shack? They're happy with that, and there are plenty around to milk it for what it's worth.

What you just described is unfortunately not limited to politicians like Rick Perry. We have many of them in Washington who, for a large donation, will sell us out just so businesses can obtain cheap illegal labor.
