Skip to comments.777 Crash at SFO (San Francisco)
Posted on 07/06/2013 12:02:24 PM PDT by FreedomPoster
Currently just Tweets and locals talking about this, nothing on news sites yet. Lots of stuff in the Twitter feed, including links to uploaded videos of the smoking mess.
Everyone on board is accounted for..crashed on landing at SFO..landing and take-off, are always the most dangerous
Just saw it on breaking news on Fox. Not much information yet. Prayers up.
Nothing on CNN. Nothing on Fox.
Nothing on sfgate.com, nothing on KGO.com.
Oops. Sorry. Just saw the Fox banner.
Currently listening to ATC, Tower just closed the airport and told Fire people the “field is yours”.
It seems way too early for that to be possible.
I’m guessing San Jose airport is seeing a sudden uptick in business.
CNN covering it.
CNN has it now. Fox has live feed.
Nothing on Drudge.
CNN has the story. Wreckage within clear view of the terminal.
Now on Fox..Sounds bad..Prayers Tail came off and plane is on it’s back
Called KGO, they said it was a plane coming from South Korea, hard landing, they will update their Twitter feed and Facebook page, “it literally happened minutes ago.”
Received this info via twitter faster than it came on the air..I guess there is some good that comes from twitter..hope that info is correct but from what I have been seeing on twitter everyone is accounted for..apparently the tail fell off while it was already on the ground the landing gear had already been deployed
please Lord, your intervention needed.
Still nothing on Drudge.
WHY did you pull my earlier thread on this crash?
There’s been live coverage on KCBS-AM (San Francisco), where in fact I first heard about it while I was driving not too long ago. It’s been confirmed as an Asiana 777. The station has gone to regularly scheduled traffic news, weather updates, and commercials, but it’s been going back to this news.
No local TV stations have been carrying continuous coverage. The news did break on KCRA (NBC from Sacramento—I’m not in the Sacramento market but get it on cable), but now the station is back to motocross. KGO (ABC) had a banner. Probably other stations have been similar.
They are spraying a lot of foam.
I can see cockpit windows. It does not look like plane is inverted. Tail section does appear to be missing.
Everyone OK? Great. That said,I hope the crash can’t be blamed on Boeing...they’re one of the few US companies that make any money and command any respect.
Yeah. Lotsa diversions.
The airplane is on it’s back. Hard to believe no casualties.
Scanner reports 293 passengers on board and one infant.
OK, looks like Drudge just got my pings.
Tail missing may have confused some observers..I thought it looked right side up, too.
Well, it doesn't look like the front section is on its back.
(short video from a distance)
A plane has crashed at San Francisco International Airport. According to reports coming from the ground, the plane, “literally broke apart.” The airport is now shut down indefinitely.
Except from the pictures, it looks like it is on its belly with the slides out.
I’ve been on a 777 Korean Airlines between US and Korea, I would say a good 90% of the passengers were very young American soldiers.
Update: now KTVU (Fox affiliate) has local coverage, and KGO (ABC, as I’d mentioned) have an ABC News special report.
I've heard pilots say that landing is really a controlled crash. Comforting, huh?
Thankfully the fire is minimal.
Wasn’t there a 777 that had an engine problem earlier this week?
Drudge has siren headline.
Love it or hate it, Twitter is always first with news and photos.
We have moderators these days who would have blown away the first now-legendary posts on the 9/11 attacks or the 2003 shuttle disaster. Just not smart.
Very comforting..why I hate flying unless I have no choice..reason #150
Eye witness says tail hit the ground upon landing, then tail disintegrated and plane flipped over.
Back in the salad days FR would have had this first, might have today. Being on mobile does take the edge off.
Sometimes though it might take minute/hours to get a post on FR or other net sites. I’m on mobile so I couldn’t post ASAP because I’m not a teen, LOL.
That said it’s nice to see at least a couple of FReepers able to post ASAP! We’re not asleep at the wheel.
Thanks to all who are vigilant.
News never sleeps.
Actually, this one was first by a couple minutes.
