An 8-month-old boy died Friday after a Virginia mother forgot he was in her car and went to work, leaving him there all day as temperatures rose to around 90, police said.

Actually there have been cases of children dying in the winter.
I haven’t heard of those cases.
It seems like it could not happen. That would just about kill a person. I hope the State Does punish her in some way, it may keep her alive.
Get rid of the stupid “back seat” laws that put infants in the back rather than the front where mommy won’t forget about them.

Unintended consequences of requiring the children to be in the back seat.
My car, and many others have clear windshield and front side windows. The rear sides and rear are heavily tinted, from the factory.
Child asleep in the car seat, mom/dad been driving some time, in a rush. He/she gets out of the car, glances around but can't see in the drivers side rear window. Doesn't see the baby.
Mom needs to place her purse or something she can't do without in the back seat next to the car seat. What could father use?

It’s the daycare mentality. Women who put their kids in daycare forget about them for long periods of time. Once in the habit of forgetting about them it’s not easy to go back to full attention.
News needs to be doing a nightly PSA DO NOT LEAVE PETS OR CHILDREN IN HOT LOCKED CARS WITH THE WINDOW CRACKED.
We are already in the low 90’s and little rain, in Memphis.
Same reason people leave pets in the car. It’s not that they forgot, they were in a hurry to get to the food chow line in the all you can eat.
Witnessed this 2 weeks ago in Memphis, before I could go tell the manager to call the LEO, these 2 quite 300 pounder’s came out and drove off, poor little Malteese was in heat distress. I own dogs and know the signs. My babies which are small stay home in the AC when it is this hot.
Yes, I agree, raising children is a very hair raising experience. And you do get distracted and it can be exhausting. I also agree that the back seat mandate on the car seats is a very bad thing, and esp. the part of having the seat backwards. You just can’t see the baby at all. And it’s true, if they’re asleep you’d really never know they were there.
People should probably get in the habit of just checking that seat every time, esp. when they KNOW the baby ISN’T there.
It happened to a friend of mine. Not what you think at all.
This. The oppressive taxes that they voted for...the ones that drove them into the job market...innocent children suffer the consequences.
Dumb sons-of-b*tches shouldn't take their pets out in the car unless they are going to the vet.

I bet mom never forgot her groceries in the car when she returned home from the store.
But, she does forget her own baby?

How often does a person drop off their groceries at a daycare and go on about their business?
