Rome (CNN) -- The Roman Catholic Church will declare the late Pope John Paul II a saint, the Vatican announced Friday.
Pope Francis signed the decree Friday morning, the Vatican said. John Paul was pope from 1978 until his death in 2005, and was in a way the first rock star pontiff, drawing vast crowds as he crisscrossed the globe.
At his funeral, thousands of pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square and chanted "Santo subito" -- Sainthood now! The Polish-born pope was fast-tracked to beatification and became "the blessed" John Paul II barely six years after his death, the fastest beatification in centuries.

Catholic priests commit sex abuse at a lower rate than pentacostal preachers and always have. There is also more sex abuse among teachers in public schools than Catholic priests. Liberals love to paint all Catholic priests as sex abusers. The reason for that is simple. Follow the money. Jesus predicted 2,000 that forces of evil would always try to destroy his Pilgrim Church on Earth, but that He would be with them until the end of time. If the world stands 2,000 more years the Catholic Church will still be here.
Hopefully the Pope Pius XII will be the next canonized Pope.
I agree and laziness regarding this issue can’t be pleasing to God.
The Tridentine Mass wasn’t codified centuries ago in order to be cast aside along with the rubrics, tenets, etc. that went out the window due to Vatican II.
Look what’s happened since that event: scandal upon scandal and a seriously declining attendance as well as a total disregard for the sanctity of the churches. A tabernacle that’s moved to a corner or even into a separate room, altar girls, confessionals that are seldom used in most parishes and a sort of club atmosphere before ‘masses’ where congregants arrive early in time to visit. It’s as though they didn’t expect anything important to happen.
It’s certainly refreshing to know that the Protestant Graham goes along with the conferring of sainthood.
I’ve lived entirely too long and watched the changes subsequent to Vatican II unfold and watched as the church disintegrated.
Nothing was done by these popes who were enthroned after Pius XII.
I feel those popes will owe our Maker quite an explanation and, due to their inaction or abetment, may not be on a fast track to Heaven let alone to Sainthood.
I agree with much of what you said; however, regarding JP’s travels and those who gained private audience, I would say that he was at the very least imprudent.
Anyone who believes that the discarding of the Church’s ancient liturgy and rubrics was a good thing need to rethink their Catholicism.
It is indeed a beef with Vatican II. That being the case it is also with those abetting and continuing that departure which was indeed the creation of a new religion entirely.

The Vatican bureaucracy is smaller than the University of Notre Dame, and its budget is smaller than Harvard's endowment. The Church oversees a worldwide flock of 1 billion people.

Basically a Protestant worship service-nothing important happens.
To answer your question, yes, all Catholics were administered a dose of poison. Some were killed, some survived, all have been weakened. The faith didn’t change, but its interpretation sure did. Your answer is equivalent to “ Oh well, that was then.” Well, that is what we are talking about.
The last three popes: JPII- great man, but we will see his fruits in the future, not now. Benedict XVI- quitter, still living the high life at the Vatican. Francis- way too soon to tell

Particularly in the last years of his life, when he was very ill, he was an inspiration to me.
He showed amazing courage all through his life.
He did, and always with a cheerful heart.
A person can do that when he’s very close to Jesus. Pope Francis keeps saying this.
I disagree with you. Did bad things happen? You bet, like the whole Dignity organization. Vatican II wasn’t the problem, it was the rebels and those of ill will.
My take is that JPII realized people were interpreting V-II incorrectly, and tried to refocus. His Theology of the Body talks were to support Humana Vitae, as well as highlight the Church’s unchanging position on all aspects of human sexuality. That’s just one example. Additionally, his re-stating and highlighting orthodoxy is given as a primary cause for an increase in vocations.
BXVI took it a step forward, by teaching, in a more accessible manner, not only the eternal truths, but also demonstrating the lineage of the teachings.
Francis is demonstrating Faith through Action. While preaching daily, he also demonstrates what he teaches.
