If you don’t understand r/K selection, and how it molded our ideologies, you don’t understand politics. We are group-competitive. That Conservatives want to compete as a group against outgroups.

The Socialist, r-selected, bunnyman position is the whole aversion to group-competition which is the “We are the world” argument.

Either you see America as an entity, and stand beside your fellow Americans in the group competition of global economics, or you side with our enemies and out-groups, in which case you should openly accept you have no in-group, and most assuredly are not part of ours. We want our group healthy and successful.

Back in the day, when you had to produce in this country, or starve, we could have open doors, because only the strong and productive would come here. With today’s cradle to grave welfare state, we will be a magnet for the leeches, and that can no longer be, or we will cease to be a great power.

Either you want America strong and powerful, for Americans, or you might as well be a traitor or enemy to every American in this nation. Today, that means booting the illegals and law breakers, and definitely not giving them the power to elect our leaders.

Unless you want Democrats in power.

Join the in-group.

We certainly need security at our borders but so-called conservatives seem to forget that before the 1920's there were NO immigration restrictions.

There was no welfare state in the 1920s either. People came here to become Americans, to enter the land of opportunity, not to get a free lunch, free school, free health care, and free housing. Illegal immigration is no longer about becoming American, it's about freeloading off the already overburdened taxpayer-slaves in this country.

Right but up to the 1920’s immigration was basically free, other than basic security concerns which of course are valid. It seems to me that the whole welcoming spirit of America among so-called conservatives has changed.

Instead, you’re against these immigrants because then you have to pay for them (a Socialist argument).

You realize that you've got that completely backwards. The fact that we have to pay for them itself is the result of socialism. The fact that we don't want to pay for them is based on the principle of the same type of rugged individualism that created what was once the greatest nation on earth.

It's bad enough that the productive among us has to carry the deadwood that makes up the base of the DemocRAT party - we don't need to be importing more welfare-sucking deadbeats.

That’s the way ALL three, Rush Limbo,..... muzzled cowardly by other pressures!!!

Muzzled? I thought this was an article about Rush wanting to discuss the immigration issue and Fox sidestepping it? Rush has been on top of this since day one and hyper critical of the GOP for supporting it.

I don't know where you're getting your information from but you're way off base when it comes to Rush.......Maybe you ought to start listening to him instead of shooting from the hip.

the misguided idea that immigration policy should be primarily for the benefit of the people who want to come here rather than the benefit of the nation

Well, until the 1920's, America freely welcomed basically everybody with security also being valid and important concerns. But America was made for the benefit of the individual and the individual was always the core value over the collection of individuals. Now it's the other way around - the collectivist state where the individual is there for the benefit of the U.S. This is not what America was founded on.

Only the difference between a 100 million population and a 300 million population in a chronically unemployed era in which those with jobs are paying for those without, to include immigrants legal and illegal

Get rid of the socialist payments and you have the 20’s again.

But the socialist payments are a large part of the draw.

Well, to each his own. That's what makes our country great, varying views and ideas and the freedom to express them.

The were no immigration quotas until the 1920's. America was always about the benefit of individual freedom and the understanding that individual freedom is the cornerstone to a healthy and happy society. On that basis, there was a welcoming spirit generally although there has always been those who out of fear or prejudice didn't like the next wave of immigrants. But we ARE a nation of immigrants and we became a good and strong nation built on the freedom of immigrants to live and build their lives as they saw fit.

Well, again, this is a socialist argument. That's OK, to each his own. It's a big country and (still) a free, where thoughts and ideas can be freely expressed and debated.

I think conservatives, however, should be focused on bringing down the authoritarian socialist state, not arguing based on acquiescing to it.

Negative. America is here to be the home of individual liberty, freedom, free markets and free minds.

To import people by the millions who believe otherwise is national suicide.

Then you must favor socialism, gun bans, massive entitlements, and various other 'Progessive ideas', because the current crop of Amnesty candidates are hugely in favor of that.

Which, of course, shows us all what you truly favor -- your protestations to the contrary nonwithstanding.

What does the GOPe know that makes them so willing, even eager, to spit on the conservative base?

They know that the government at Washington has been liberated from the constraints placed by the Constitution, that said government knows how to wield power, and that that government will reward followers and punish opponents.

No, the typical argument is WE have to pay for these people. That’s an argument based on socialism (people seen as a liability becasue they are a siphon for government “entitlements” instead seen as another human being of intrinsic worth and value looking for the opportunity and freedom to build his life). Instead, we should focus on taking down the socialist state.

Plus, as long as I’m tearing you one, you do realize the poet who wrote “give me your tired...” was an avowed Zionist. I’m guessing she wasn’t a big fan of Arabs immigrating into the new Jewish state she helped form, and then voting on who would lead the Israelis.

Then again, she was loyal to her people.

Your assessment of Lincoln and the Republicans is correct. My preference is that a new conservative based party, maybe started with help from Mark Levin and Sarah Palin, come into being. I would love to join a truly conservative, states rights oriented party that had no stench of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and the other progressives.

If I favored massive entitlements, would I favor immigration? Of course not! Socialism is an argument against immigration, the argument I hear most often around here. The effort should instead be on taking down this socialist government monster to it constitutional size and limits.

Yeah mine too about 1660 near as I can tell. We are talking about people who climb over the rusty 2 strands of barbed wire instead of doing it the right way, the legal way. We are not talking about stopping legal immigrants just the illegal ones. Just the ones who swim the Rio Grande, that is where the term “wet back” came from, in case you don't know. I have watched them coming out of the river with all of their belongings in a bundle over their heads. Were they poor Mexicans just looking for a job or were they terrorists coming in the back door? We will never know will we?
