Live Thread: Egypt Revolution 2.0
Various sources | Wednesday, July 3, 2013 | Kristinn

The Egyptian army has set a deadline of 4 p.m. Cairo time for the Muslim Brotherhood government of President Morsi to compromise with the people of Egypt (by stepping down.) Morsi refuses. 18 people were killed and 200 were wounded in clashes at Cairo University last night.

A Washington Post report from Cairo on dueling statements from Morsi and the army:

Waving his hands and shaking his fists in a 45-minute speech on national television late Tuesday, Morsi swore that he was committed to the democratic process that brought him to power and said that any attempts to subvert the constitution were “unacceptable.”

The army, in turn, posted a message to its Facebook page saying: “We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool.”

In his speech, Morsi acknowledged that he had made mistakes during his year in office as Egypt’s first democratically elected president. But he appealed to Egyptians to give him more time to deal with the country’s problems.

that he was committed to the democratic process that brought him to power

Just how clean was that election? As clean as, say, Obama's?

“We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool.”

'nuff said. Looks like either Morsi backs down by 4 PM, or he is going to go the way of Hussein and Gadhafi.

And oooh, won't Obama's foreign policy be getting the come uppance it deserves.

If the military follows through with the plan thye announced yesterday, then Egypt will be far better off, and so will the entire region.

Obama will be causing trouble behind the scene. He is backing Morsi and doing all he can to stop the Egyptian military from other reports posted on FR. If the military removes Morsi, Obama will try to destabilize the interim government and get the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salifists back in power IMO. He has consistently backed the radical transnational Islamists in each of these Middle East confrontations.

Barack didn’t hesitate to demand that Mubarak leave. Mubarak was a “bad” dictator - pro-Western, pro-U.S., at peace with Israel. Islamists are “good” dictators.

Clinton has a solid record of INcompetence. Her only qualification for office is that she is a woman, which counts for something among the addled leftists who support her.
