From my conversations with faculty members, that seems to be the way things work at my local university. Fear, fear, and more fear. A black student who does not learn the course material and is failed or given an appropriately low grade can and sometimes does cause trouble galore. When a black student performs well, everyone sighs with relief.
I guess college degrees are a joke now. And the joke is on the students who took out big college loans for nothing.
