They also despise the Turks and the Turks hate the Iranis as well. Iran will expand it's Shia influence from Lebanon to Tajikistan but will be surrounded by Sunnis in the form of the Turks, Turkmen, Punjabi/Sindhi Pakis and the Arabs (Egyptians, Saudis, Qataris, Emiratis). They have NEVER unified and will never unify. Saddam called the Iranis "Persian flies" and wanted to destroy them. The Semitic-Iranic war has been continuous since 1700 BC with the Hittites taking on the Akkadians, then the Assyrians pushing back them and then the Medes followed by the Persians taking over Semitic lands, then Nejdi Arabs taking over Iran, then the Irani push back

While somewhat off-topic, you seem to be the right person to ask: how did Christianity fail to make significant inroads among the Persians (modern day Iranians) even as it was embraced by many of her neighbors (notably Armenia) in the first three or four centuries after Christ?
I mean, it seems a natural, yet, they went from paganism to Islam even as Christianity was "available" to them.
