Ann Coulter flip-flops: N.J. Gov. Chris Christie’s ‘dead’ to me

Conservative firebrand and best-selling author Ann Coulter has changed her tune and flip-flopped on her support for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

In a Thursday tweet, she wrote: “@GovChristie’s dead to me.”

The tweet came on the heels of Republican Sen. Jeffrey Chiesa’s vote to end debate on the immigration reform bill. Mr. Chiesa was appointed to the seat by Mr. Christie after Sen. Frank Lautenberg died.

At the tail of her tweet, Ms. Coulter also added: “Jeffrey S. Chiesa R NJ votes ‘Aye’ on Amnesty bill.”

The denouncement is a major turn for Ms. Coulter, who pushed hard for Mr. Christie to run for president against Barack Obama in 2011. In February of 2011, she told Fox News: “I don’t care if [Chris Christie] wants to run, his country needs him, it appears.”

And at the Conservative Political Action Conference in 2011, she said similarly: “If we don’t run Chris Christie, [Mitt] Romney will be the nominee and we’ll lose,” The Daily Caller reported.

As late as May 2013, Ms. Coulter still stood strong for Mr. Christie.

I worked as a reporter/ed for over a decade and am a published author, in print, alongside one of the biggest names in motorsports journalism. Even had Time Magazine do a hit piece on me ;)

So I have ‘gotten to it”.

I'm continually amazed at how many of our FR Brethren will gang up on Ann.

Really?

She flat out lies about RomneyCare being a conservative solution, about Romney being a conservative and then supports a known moderate for President (Christie) and you're "Amazed"?

Maybe you're just ignorant of the fact that you are posting on a conservative website, and Ann is a self-declared conservative, albeit a hypocritical self-declared conservative as her actions for the last 2 years have clearly shown.

Are you lost?

Norm, that was my point. You are a published and honored writer! You have conservative complaints against Ann Coulter. Give her the hard edge, she fully deserves, buddy.

I would love nothing more than to have a nice online debate with Ann and make her explain her positions. But she would never do that as it would be damaging to her brand.

IMO, much as she might deserve someone hammering her through a wall, and given the chance I would (hell, plenty of Freepers greater than I ‘could’), the more people just discussing her Kerry imitation will serve the conservative cause than beating her at her own game.

But is she’s ever feeling frisky, let’s rock ;)

Question 1: Ann, how do you explain slamming Mitt Romney and everything he stands for several years, then suddenly turning on a dime and giving him unflinching support? Is that not the very hypocrisy that ALL of your books condemn in the Democrats?

Question 2: Why exactly have you attacked your very readership/supporters over issues ranging from homosexual infiltration of the Republican party to Birthers when another of your supposed heroes, Sheriff Joe Arpaio has stated that Obama’s BC is a fraud. Please explain why you believe the word of Obama and the dems outweighs that of an American hero.

There need be no question 3 as she either has to lie or discredit herself utterly to answer 1 and 2.

Her books are a different animal than her TV appearances, and for that matter her weekly column.

The book Mugged, was brilliant I thought, and exhaustively sourced.

And I haven't read a recent column that I've disagreed with.

I'm still a fan, despite her presidential "picks".

Which have been lousy.

OK one more to bury the axe.

Question 3: Ann, the core of your books centers around the deception practiced by democrats as a means to achieve political power. Yet you deceived many of your former supporters with the above points mentioned in questions one and two. Since we have established conclusively that you are willing to make radical shifts in your core ‘conservatism’ by simply compare and contrast your public statements over the past decade, explain how your brand of political manipulation of your ‘base’ differs from that of say Bill Clinton or Barack Obama.

On-line? Go to her site. I’ve yelled at her, she yelled back. Ann’s pretty good at dodge, weave and full on- perhaps a third, fourth and fifth query, wouldn’t be out of line. Have your advance in good order, or just be steady on your feet. Regardless, what would your 3rd question be?

Well, good foresight, Norm. You answered, a question I had not asked you. Pretty cool.
