Prescott Fire Department confirmed 19 firefighters have died while battling the Yarnell Hill fire on Sunday night. They're part of the Prescott Granite Mountain Hot Shots.

The wildfire was likely caused by a lightning strike Saturday night.

The Yarnell Hill fire, about 35 miles southwest of Prescott, has burned about 1,300 acres and forced the evacuation of 50 homes.

The fire started Friday and has not yet burned down any structures, but Sunday night firefighters pushed the blaze back away from communities, hoping to keep the blaze from overtaking any homes.

A growing fire in Yarnell forced about 600 residents from their homes.

The back yard smells like smoke so the winds are pushing it this way.

And as close as I was to the Doce (Docie...) fire, the wind NEVER got us. Rather amazing, really.

Losing this many men is something I just can't grasp. :(

In Worcester MA 6 were were killed fighting a abandoned building fire. They got lost and ran out of air, along with crews sent in to look for them. Not sure how so many were jilted igniting a wild fire, unless they got trapped.

I was in the southwest area of Prescott about 2 years ago...The entire area looked like a dyed out tinderbox, where one spark would set it off.

Yes, the wind changed and the firefighters were trapped in a ridge...horrid news.

A member of my family was trapped the same way, but she was able to escpe, she was alone and crying at that time, as well.

Very sad, indeed.

Prayers up, for the families..

Almighty Father, let this account be wrong, but if it is not your will, then please comfort the families and friends of these firefighters and receive the fallen unto you with open arms. I ask this in the Name of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen.

It needs to be grazed to stay healthy. The travelling herds used to do that, but now the government owns most of the land and they won’t let anyone do anything with it (or to it) so the fuel load continues to build and the grass is not as healthy as it would be if it were grazed.

Grazing actually makes the grass more healthy and nutritious for the wild animals that live there. I see more Deer in the late Summer on the cow pasture even though there is taller grass on the other side of the fence. The grass in the pasture is more lush and healthier and the deer know that.

I hate cable news on the weekend. No one is breaking in and reporting this tragedy.

Thank goodness for the internet.

Terrible tragedy. I know the area well and can certainly understand the dangerous conditions and heat these heros were working. RIP

Don’t know why anyone would watch TV nowadays, when the Internet is available...

I guess it’s the same reason why some people still get their news delivered in a wad of dirty paper, thrown on their driveway.
