Seth Jones, the hockey-playing son of former NBA forward Ronald “Popeye” Jones, a Maverick from 1993-96 and again in 2002-03, was selected fourth overall by the Nashville Predators.

Jones, ranked No. 1 among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting, surprised many by slipping down and going fourth to the Nashville Predators.

"First of all, I’m going to worry about myself and trying to get better and try to make Nashville next year, and then second of all, I’m going to try to make -- in a good way, though -- those teams regret not taking me," Jones told TSN. "I think that's my job and I'm going to do whatever I can to help Nashville win."

Jones has been impressive in the Juniors last couple years; and on team USA.

I always watch the World Juniors (as an ex-canuckistani) and it’s always a tradition for us. Jones was the best defenseman I saw on the ice for the entire tourney but I never forgot John Gibson who was the goalie for team USA.

Any idea, with his standing, why he wasn’t picked first? Nahville’ gain. I’m sure he’ll do them and himself proud.

TB Lightning had 3d pick and passed on Jones. They picked another scorer instead of a defenseman (which TB need)...should have picked Jones when he was there at 3. Just hope this does not bite the Bolts later

If Jone is the real deal playing alongside Shea Weber will give Nashville the best D in the league. He slipped down because two teams wanted the best forwards in the draft and Florida choosing second needing a forward who could step in and play right away and took the best forward from a European league.

Thanks. I hope he does well in the NHL (and gets to the point where he’s referred to for his own success and not for his lineage)
