CHICAGO (AP) — This city, where violent street gangs shoot it out dozens of times a week despite some of the nation's toughest restrictions on guns, now faces a new challenge: Well-meaning citizens with the legal right to hit the streets with loaded firearms, whenever they want.
As Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn mulls whether to sign off on eliminating the country's last concealed carry ban, the question in Chicago is whether it will matter in the crime-weary city. Will a place that long had some of the nation's tightest restrictions on handguns be more at risk? Or will it be safer with a law that can only add to the number of guns already on the street?
Neighborhood leaders, anti-crime activists and police officials worry about additional mayhem in Chicago. But other residents, including some who live in Chicago's more violent areas, believe more guns will allow them to defend themselves better.
"We just had a weekend where something like 48 people were shot, seven died," said Otis McDonald, 79, one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit that ended with the U.S. Supreme Court tossing out Chicago's strict gun ban three years ago. "Now law abiding citizens like myself ... can carry them when they want to and not carry them when they don't want to, and the people out there who will do us harm won't know when we got them and when we don't."
At City Hall, where Chicago's anti-gun campaign has centered for years, the reaction to concealed carry legislation has been relatively quiet. The reasons seem to boil down to this: The city can do little about stopping the law because a federal appeals court ordered Illinois to end its public possession ban by this summer.

Actually, in their minds they can. It's because of guns coming into the city from the surrounding towns who have "lax" laws. It's how they rationalize making their perverted view into state law and how they browbeat surrounding states, particularly Indiana, to adopt the same bizarre attitude toward guns.
And the lib lightweights won’t mention the Mexican cartel channel sending guns, drugs to Chi-land.
Believe me, the Chicago area is chock full of Mexicans, and they are ALL armed. Mexican gangs are the dominant gangs in the Chicago area. The Mexican drug cartels call most of the shots in the Chicago area.
And that is why they don't have a drug problem - drugs are illegal everywhere. Simple logic...
I think that what REALLY scares liberal politicians in Chicago (as well as libs across the nation)? What if violent crime rates go down?
They'll attribute the decrease in violent crime to President You Didn't Build That's leadership, plus Joey "the Genius" Biden's self-defense lessons on television.

IL is one of the last of the old time slave states. It’s America’s North Korea. This is a big deal. No IL pol wants to give their slave a gun. It might lead to other ideas and foreign ways of thinking. Things like liberty may be taken seriously. This is a real threat to the Combine.
Yep, the focus on murder is a distraction. That’s why the left uses it. The reality of CC is that it lowers petty crime, and less than murder felonies, the vast majority of which never need a cop.
Crime statistics in Chicago are joke and likely a tenth of what the real crime rate is. They have to show up to a murder, otherwise they avoid taking a police report. I suspect it’s the same in every major city in the world, at least the ones run by libs.
The Left is in love with the idea of being able to intimidate people who don't agree, whether with mobs showing up at your home, or some union thug threatening to break your legs.
An unarmed man is easier to intimidate with discreet or indiscreet threats. An armed man can only be pushed so far.

If the crime rates go down they won't need as many UNION cops. See how that works.
This is exactly what the liberals were saying when Florida went from the "Castle Doctrine" to "Stand Your Ground". The media was full of the opinions that Florida will turn into the Wild West. However; they had to admit that violent crime rates DID go down within the first 6 months. Facts are a terrible thing to liberals, it shows them just how wrong they are on so many things.
Not only have there been hundreds of deaths involving mainly people who know each other and are involved in crime but there have been violent flash mobs attacking total strangers who have done nothing to them. A surprise pistol will dampen the enthusiam of those street thugs.
You can bet that the politicians and the judges who keep giving the hoods a slap on the wrist are probably cashing in on the gangs ill-gotten gains.

Most of the drugs today come through Mexico so of course the Mexican cartels would be running the show.
Murders make headlines that’s why the politicians can’t ignore them.
