Newspaper Desecrates Catholic Icon
Fox News Radio ^ | June 28 2013 | Todd Starnes

A New Mexico newspaper defended its desecration of a Catholic icon and refused to apologize because they said the offensive image reflected diversity and captured the essence of summer.

The Santa Fe Reporter created an uproar with its “Summer Guide 2013.” The cover featured an artistic depiction of the Virgin of Guadalupe wearing a skimpy bikini and drinking a margarita. Over her shoulder is a bare-chested cowboy sporting a nipple ring and wearing a pink cowboy hat and kerchief.

Fox News

Santa Fe Catholics said the weekly alternative newspaper has turned the religious icon into a party girl.

“If your intent was to in effect slap Catholics across the face, by putting forth this public depiction of Our Lady as a party girl, during the very week that we honor her as our patroness, then I can only say that from my perspective, you succeeded,” wrote Adam Le Ortega, the record of the Cathedral basilica of St. Francis of Assisi."

If the Santa Fe Reporter really wants to be edgy and courageous, why don't they grow a freaking pair and depict Muhammad in a Speedo?

Really offensive. Not a smart move by the paper. A lot of devout Catholics in the Santa Fe area.

We all know the answer to that - they are cowards. When Christians are offended by things like this, the media say in lockstep - lighten up, live with it, freedom of speech, blah blah blah. But if there is some similar offense directed at Muslims, they jump to the defense of the Muslims. So, in conclusion - the msm hate Christians and are dhimmies for Muslims.

Tasteless.

Not a good idea since there are A LOT of devout Spanish-speakiing Catholics in the area.

"Not a smart move by the paper."

It's described as an "alternative" newspaper, and therefore it probably caters to artsy liberals and will therefore be applauded for its "courage."

Well got to remember that Muslims can threaten violence against the offending person. Christians will simply demand a letter writting campaign.

I'd be happy if someone-- anyone in the media-- asked Obama, Holder or Biden a real question.

True - they know they are safe offending Christians. They can absorb the criticism and pass themselves off as courageous gadflies.

The Santa Fe Catholics should organize boycotts of the major advertisers in the newspaper. If it is like most newspapers these days it won’t take much to push them under.

A couple people wrote comments for another article about Santa Fe being a liberal cesspool. Looks like the Santa Fe Reporter agreed.

This is actually a takeoff of the old liberal/leftist publication “The Realist” of Phil Krasner (1960’s). Totally irreverant satire from the Left, but actually funny.

Today’s leftist “satire” is a direct attack on organized religion and comes from an anarchist/marxist perspective, not from any intellectual basis.

At least Krasner had a sense of humor. The last time I saw him was at the Counter-Inaugural demonstration in Jan. 1969 when a Yippie challenged him to take off his clothes, an offer he refused. I think he saved our eyesight by doing so.

Do a boycott the businesses that advertise for the paper that should do to get the word across.

Maybe Hispanics will get a clue that the left does not share their values and is not on their side.

Imagine that paper allowing an insult to Blacks, Homosexuals, Islamic adherents, Women, and on and on...

But of course, it’s okay to trash Christians, their beliefs, or anything they hold sacred.

My but the Left sure is tolerant. /s

A “devout catholic” in New Mexico is someone with a Virgin Mary air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror as they shoot at you from a moving vehicle.

"the image reflected diversity"

So they claim. A moronic assertion - it reflected only the anti-Catholic bias of the newspaper and its readers. That's "diversity"?

That would work, but you would never get enough people on board, not to mention local neighborhood entertainment newspapers are usually staffed by militant homophiliacs. Who are also anti religion except for islam jew or atheist, aswell as being pro minority/anti white and they simply just dont care.
