German court dismisses bid for full Eichmann files

Germany’s foreign intelligence agency can keep secret some of its records on Adolf Eichmann, the man known as the architect of the Nazi Holocaust, a court ruled Thursday.

The Federal Administrative Court ruled that the intelligence agency was within its rights to black out passages from the files sought by a journalist attempting to shed light on whether West German authorities knew in the 1950s where Eichmann had fled after World War II.

Thursday’s ruling followed a decision last year in which the court said the Federal Intelligence Service had to release some files it had previously kept secret.

Israeli agents abducted Eichmann in Buenos Aires in 1960 and brought him to Jerusalem for trial. Eichmann, who helped organize the extermination of Europe’s Jews as the head of the Gestapo’s Jewish affairs office during the World War II, was found guilty of war crimes, sentenced to death and hanged in 1962. …

Shhhh! There are many people who ran the ratline still alive and in positions of power. (We mustn’t embarrass the vatican, either!)

BFD. If Whitey Bulger's own brother didn't know where he was, how could the Germans possibly have known where Eichmann was?

Vee know nussink!

An eighteen year old at the start of the war (1939) would be 92 years old today. That age is too young to have run the ratline as you say. And now would be too old to do much of anything. Add another ten years of age and you have a very finite pool of men who are even alive in 2013, let alone responsible for war crimes.

The NAZI-hunting business will stagger on for a while longer.

Let's see, if you were a big 12 or 13 yo in 1945 and pressed into the Volksturm for some dirty NAZI duty or other, you would be "only" 80-81 yo today!

Need to redact out the parts about his meetings with Adolph in the 1950s.

Then make it an 18 year old at the end of the war. That'll increase your finite pool slightly. It's not about how many are alive today, it's about WHY they got away and who helped them.

There are still plenty of people who had fathers and other relatives who ran the ratline and benefitted from doing do. The creeps they helped escape have families too.

No one wants to have to explain where their wealth came from. Gold from 7 million Jews went many directions!

A GERMAN court keeps it all sealed - what a SURPRISE!

What would motivate Germany to keep concealed actions which were taken AFTER the end of World War II? I can only imagine that the problem is that many in Germany continued to support the policies of the Nazis long after the end of the war.

Such support, which might include hiding Nazis in their sixties and protecting them from trial, could have been provided by people who today are only in their sixties. One can only guess at the level of criminality that such people engaged in in order to protect those guilty of genocide.

And today. Cults do not die out when their armies are defeated. Neither do they die out when their ideas completely fail, as in the Soviet Union.

Genetically, Germans are programmed to labor on a strange idea until it works well. Witness the Volkswagen Beetle from 1936 to 1980!

I thought this would have been at least one of the end of War conditions. Your defeated, ‘we’ now have access to all of your records, regardless of the time afterward.

Really to the point! You are all focused on the Germans after WWII but I doubt there was anything The U.S. or Russia did not know about Nazis or their whereabouts after the war.

“I can only imagine that the problem is that many in Germany continued to support the policies of the Nazis long after the end of the war.”

Why do you suppose that it remains necessary to ban the NSDAP, to have a court continuously in session to ferret out and ban organizations and groups that print or discuss NSDAP ideas or create symbols or music that could be understood to relate to the NSDAP?

It remains necessary because they are damned afraid of the ghost of the Austrian corporal.

And well they should be. His ideas and his program, except (possibly) the antisemitism, fit the German psyche quite well.

I think there was more concern about the coming threats of the Soviet Union than there was about rounding up every Nazi or Nazi sympathizer. Our alliance with the Soviet Union was probably a necessary evil, but it was most certainly evil.

I believe it only remains “necessary” because the international Left wants a bogeyman to scare off any argument against it’s policies. I readily understand why the Germans ban everything OUTWARDLY Nazi. The problem is that to the German and International Left ANYTHING CONSERVATIVE IS DEEMED NAZI.
