George Zimmerman Witness Can't Read Letter She 'Wrote' About Shooting
ABC News ^ | June 27, 2013 | SENI TIENABESO and MATT GUTMAN

A teenage friend of Trayvon Martin was forced to admit today in the George Zimmerman murder trial that she did not write a letter that was sent to Martin's mother describing what she allegedly heard on a phone call with Martin moments before he was shot.

In a painfully embarassing moment, Rachel Jeantel was asked to read the letter out loud in court.

"Are you able to read that at all?" defense attorney Don West asked.

Jeantel, head bowed, eyes averted whispered into the court microphone, "Some but not all. I don't read cursive."

It sent a hush through the packed courtroom.

Jeantel, 19, was unable to read any of the letter save for her name...

During nearly two hours of cross examination Wednesday in which he tried to raise questions about her version of events and accused her of telling several lies under oath, including about her whereabouts during Martin's wake.

"Under oath, you created a lie and said you went to the hospital?" asked West.

"Yes," responded Jeantel. She said she lied because she didn't want to see the body.

Jeantel became increasingly agitated and scoffed when West told her that she would have to continue testifying.

She is seen as a critical witness to the prosecution because she is the only person able to say that Martin claimed that he noticed a strange man following him and that he was scared. Jeantel said Martin described the stranger as a "creepy ass cracker."

Jeantel said Martin, 17, was walking home during halftime of the NBA All-Star Game when he became unnerved because he was being followed.

"I don't read cursive."

Thank God I went to grammar school in the 50's, when they still taught cursive. It sure came in handy when reading historical documents/letters. They were all written in cursive. I think the schools have made a big mistake not teaching it anymore. Just more dumbing down.

Is that the “girlfriend” Trayvon was speaking to on the phone when the shooting occurred? I dont even have to interview her to tell if she has a problem with telling the truth. Its written all over her face

Doesn’t say much for Jeb Bush’s vaunted Florida education reforms that this 19 year old can’t read.

Students don't fail schools. Schools fail students. (Irony alert)

Considering how the prosecution’s side is getting destroyed and the collectivist media inciting the Blacks to riot we are going to see fireworks within a couple or few months.

I mean come up, the white man has kept her down, you can’t possibly expect her to be eloquent.

“Why would any prosecutor put on that witness knowing what was coming?”

My belief (and that’s all it is) is that the prosecution has been put on no-uncertain-terms notice by the DOJ that they prosecute this case or they will most seriously regret it.

IMO there’s very simply no probative evidence in this case...a person sees what they (choose to) see.

Looks like she could get the leading role in a Precious 2 movie.

Was she asked who did write the letter, when, and why? If this gal can’t read cursive then somebody wrote that letter and gave it to her, telling her to claim she had written it. Whoever did that needs to be sitting in jail sometime soon. If it’s Crump he should be disbarred and sit in jail for a long time AFTER Zimmerman is acquitted and the prosecution is forced to reveal what all they knew about the lies on which their case was built. This issue is critical because it reveals an attempt on the part of the prosecution and their key witness to fabricate evidence, which means that ALL their claims are suspect.

And the Prosecution’s “star witness” is an illiterate liar!

Can you predict what might happen?

A.) The prosecution’s case will be full of self-inflicted damage, and Zimmerman will be acquitted - and the cities will burn.

B.) The all-estrogen courtroom will feel such an overwhelming sympathy of sisterhood, the testimony will be stricken.

Which?

This is the message Republicans should be preaching daily

Except that the Blacks AND the Democrats both understand something thath the Republicans apparently don't, which is that the schools and what they teach doesn't matter.

It's the STUDENTS, not the TEACHERS.

Good thing her deleted Twitter posts weren’t in cursive.

(Or, “crusif” as she says it)
