2 Mich. McDonald's drop halal food after suit

DETROIT (AP) -- The only two McDonald's restaurants in the United States that were serving food prepared according to Islamic law have stopped several weeks after a $700,000 settlement over a lawsuit that alleged the items weren't consistently halal.

The fast-food giant said in a statement Monday that the locations in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn, which has a large Muslim population, are no longer offering a halal McChicken sandwich or Chicken McNuggets in order "to focus on our national core menu."

The corporation added it takes into account "local and dietary preferences," and supports its franchisees in Dearborn. Neither the statement nor a spokeswoman said whether McDonald's decision was related to the lawsuit.

The lawsuit, brought by customer Ahmed Ahmed in 2011, technically covered anyone who bought the halal-advertised products between September 2005 and January from the restaurant on Ford Road and another one in Dearborn with a different owner. The second location wasn't a defendant or a focus of the investigation.

And yes, there are laws (ordinances) in the OT that pertain to those Gentiles wishing to convert to Judaism.

In fact, one of the errors/heresies Paul fought against was that Gentile converts to Christ were first being made to convert to Judaism and conform to Jewish laws and customs. His letter to the Galatians lays out his principle arguments against these “Judaizers”, yet he was not the only one dealing with the issue.

Judaism had its reformation. Christianity had its Reformation. Islam has not. Therein lies the biggest difference.

I agree. They’re living in a century incompatible with the constitution.

Abraham “seeded” the future Jewish people. Any arguments here?
The fact that he was not a Jew is as relevant as Christ being a Jew but Paul founding a new faith, no?

Things do not have to start with A but they can evolve into a B, no? That particular B is recognized by all to be Jews.

So are you saying G-d’s promise is for all Mankind?

There are Reformers within Islam but due to the fact that they usually blow up before attaining office, their lobbying power is quite weak...

“Abraham “seeded” the future Jewish people. Any arguments here?”

And He took him outside and said, “Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:5-6

For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would be heir of the world was not through the Law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if those who are of the Law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise is nullified; for the Law brings about wrath, but where there is no law, there also is no violation.

For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants, not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, (as it is written, “A FATHER OF MANY NATIONS HAVE I MADE YOU”) in the presence of Him whom he believed, even God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist. Romans 4:13-17

All who share in the faith of Abraham through Christ share in the promise God gave him.

“The fact that he was not a Jew is as relevant as Christ being a Jew but Paul founding a new faith, no?”

Paul was a Jew (a Pharisee who persecuted believers in Christ before his conversion.) And Paul didn’t found Christianity: Jesus Christ did. Paul and the other apostles were simply messengers of the good news.

“Things do not have to start with A but they can evolve into a B, no? That particular B is recognized by all to be Jews.”

First, your question assumes God’s plan was “evolving.” His plan of redemption for all of mankind was in motion the day He created mankind. Our understanding of His plan may evolve, but His plan has never evolved.

For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. 1 Peter 1:20-21

But, as noted in the citation from Paul I posted, those early Jews who believed in Christ believed the promise of redemption through faith in Christ was available to all.

“So are you saying G-d’s promise is for all Mankind?”

Yep.

When people look at Israel, they see a physical nation. But the nation of promise God gave Abraham was not just physical, but spiritual, which is why Peter could later write to the church in Babylon he founded:

But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were NOT A PEOPLE, but now you are THE PEOPLE OF GOD; you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY. 1 Peter 2:9-10

This passage is as true of Gentile believers as it is of Jewish believers. God sees every believer through the blood of His Son.

“So religious people are fools?”

Well you would have to be a fool or perhaps an idiot to deny yourself something as basic as food, based on superstitious hogwash.

I’ve never understood this business about some types of food being religiously off limits.

A lot of ancient dietary laws make sense as basic sanitation practice in hot climates without refrigeration. But write anything down, no matter how simple and common sense, and you can be sure an industry will arise to interpret and embellish. It's the nature of bureaucracy.

Not so much the Fig Newtons, I think the church used to have a problem with the Fig Galileos. Something about the Diet of Worms, maybe.

Few people if any deny themselves food, just some types of food.

Jesus is not superstitious hogwash.
