Dissension and fiscal woes beset the Girl Scouts (Awwwwww...)
AP ^ | 6/23/2013 | DAVID CRARY

Given the friction and financial woes facing the Girl Scouts these days, perhaps it's time for a giant friendship circle. Under that long-standing tradition, a ring of Scouts clasp hands and give a little squeeze, accompanied by a silent wish of good will.

Just a year after its centennial celebrations, the Girl Scouts of the USA finds itself in a different sort of squeeze. Its interconnected problems include declining membership and revenues, a dearth of volunteers, rifts between leadership and grassroots members, a pension plan with a $347 million deficit, and an uproar over efforts by many local councils to sell venerable summer camps.

The tangle of difficulties has prompted one congressman to request an inquiry by the House Ways and Means Committee into the pension liabilities and the sale of camps.

"I am worried that America's Girl Scouts are now selling cookies to fund pension plans instead of camping," wrote Rep. Bruce Braley, D-Iowa, in a letter last month to the committee chairman.

Compounding the problems are tensions at GSUSA headquarters in New York, where several senior executives have quit or been ousted since Anna Maria Chavez took over as CEO in 2011. Last week, some of the roughly 325 employees there were invited to take early retirement, and Chavez said an unspecified number of layoffs were expected in August to offset the revenue losses.

As the membership numbers drop for the GS have the numbers been rising for the American Heritage Girls?

You keep making excuses. I have better things to do.

Toodles.

When I was a leader/troop volunteer for 4 years about 13 years ago, there was a HUGE PUSH among the Girl Scout Leadership (National) to get away from we stay-at-home mommies running things because they wanted the “girls” to have better role models (career women) than we stay-at-homes who were the leaders/volunteers. I had to take their training for leader which included their new “push” for single, career ladies to be leaders. (Good Lord, we don’t want to have as a “model” for the girls a full-time, stay-at-home mom who takes care of her own kids and other’s children).

This would be wise to pass on to Snopes etc if they are unaware at this level. Is there anything in the graphics which might reveal what system, etc. it was created upon?

We do want to be careful about false witness against a neighbor, however. That’s basic Christian conduct. It should be noted as a controversy rather than a proven matter until thorough investigation is done.

Very good! Now, any evidence it was given to 8 year old girls at Girl Scout meetings?

What excuses? YOU are the one who are making excuses for not pointing to the Lord, and your flying off without even beginning to address that issue shows where your attitude is. I pray that the Lord will bless you out of this condemnatory funk.

Why? I have no confidence in Snopes, etc. Any more than I have confidence in newspaper "political fact checkers".

You do have confidence in the Lord however, who did advise against false witness? We know more about the document in question, but not yet whether it got passed out at the UN. Do we have parents of girls who were there, with testimony, for example?

Tell it to someone that cares.

Oh, how original you are! LOL!

You are a real piece of useless work.

You think sitting, opining on the web really changes anything?

OK if you want to continue..

Tell me where God wants up to pretend we did’t royally go against him by feeding our kids to liberals.

Because every time we do things like send them into the arms of Planned barrenhood and the Gayscouts of America, we take the most precious thing he can physically give is and throw it away.

Do YOU have kids in these groups KNOWING what you know about them? Do you?

If not, good. If so, don’t complain at what you brought on yourself.

I am sick to death of everyone expecting to have cake and eat it too. Romney, this, whatever.

You I and everyone get more of the same until we all collectively do something besides cut our own throat. If you think God is going to help anyone refusing to help themselves we really have no common ground to discuss anything more.

The strategy works. Work your way to the top of that which you wish to destroy and destroy it from within, be it Girl Scout organization, Boy Scouts, Churches, YMCA, football...or, most significantly, the United States of America. The President and his gangs are doing the same thing to the country that leadership is doing to other areas of our culture. It is like someone moving into your home and changing the decor and rules to suit themselves.

So Romney is the worst thing since dead skunks in the middle of the road, let that be stipulated.

Can we go on from there. Can we bring the divine presence to bear? That has a way of putting all else into perspective real quick. Wrangling about Mitt Romney in the darkness does not beckon God in. God was the foundation of the USA; the forefathers were all believers in the bible however their specific takes on the bible differed.

Anima Mundi... soul of the world, I think that means?

The way to overcome this wicked soul is by the Lord. The Lord is bursting with love and only wants us to make a way for Him to enter our souls again. We’ve been walling Him out in intense wickedness. That has to stop or we are cursed forever.

Does God want us feeding our kids to evil or not? That’s a yes/no question.

Does God want us silent when we see it happen? Yes or no.

Does God want us to acknowledge out sin/mistakes, learn from them, be forgiven and move on? Yes or no.

Other than anecdotal...I do not have an internal policy memorandum from GSUSA, if that's what you're asking.

There is that famous video of the (then) GSUSA president discussing connections with PP (as well as others like this video from Live Action interviewing a couple of former girl scouts about the PP connection), but do I have the "smoking gun" memo? No.

Does God want us to be so entranced on the evil below that we forget to point to Him above? That’s a yes/no question.

Does God want us to remember that He is our all in all, and that “moving on” means nothing unless it is in a durable, loving attachment to him? That’s a yes/no question.

As always, my questions are avoided. You chose not to answer basic tenets of christian theology and just keep on trucking. We all can see that. No point going further.
