Rand Paul: I'm a 'No' on Gang of Eight Bill
Rand Paul announced on Sunday that he will vote against the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill because it does not sufficiently secure the Southern border.
“I’m like most conservatives in the country in that I think reform should be dependent on border security first,” Paul said, noting that he introduced a bill that was voted down that would have given Congress that power to vote on whether the border is in fact secure. “To me what really tells me that they’re serious would be letting Congress vote on whether the border is secure. If the people in the country want to be assured that we will not get another ten million people to come here illegally over the next decade, they have to believe that they get a vote through their Congress. If this is a done deal once the bill is over…I don’t think we’ll really get a truly secure border.”
The Senate this week will vote on both the Corker-Hoeven amendment, a last-minute attempt by Republicans to strengthen the border-security measures in the Gang of Eight’s bill, and the Gang’s bill itself.
Paul, an advocate of immigration reform, went on to say that the bill will undoubtedly pass the Senate, but that it’s “dead on arrival” in the Republican-controlled House.
Immigration does need reform. I don’t think the quota based immigration is really doing what America wants.
It would be better to have people pay x amount to legally come to america and gain residency. They would then have to stay in America for a specific length of time (say 10 years) maintaining residency and then they could apply for citizenship.
Break a law - get deported and have to start all over.
However, this would only work if and only if, the welfare state were dismantled. So the problem isn’t really immigration but the welfare state.
If the bill passes and people such as Paul vote against it, I will consider those no votes to be nothing more than safe votes.
Either convince your “honorable” colleagues to defeat this treasonous bill, or be blamed for it.
It’s all or nothing.
Well I would hope so. Any Republican that votes for this POS should be run out of the party. And you know there will be a bunch of them. Count GA’s two RINO’s Chambliss and Isakson in that bunch.
I can tell you what this American wants.
I want a government that is not full to the brim of lying scumbags doing their damn best to completely destroy this country, and until such time as that, I do not want and I am not interested in any fix to anything else, nor do I trust anything they so or do about anything.
Nothing.
So Rand’s excuse is the border wouldn’t be secure enough under this plan. And if the border were secure enough? Then what Rand? You would then agree to flooding this nation with 100 million plus new citizens in under 20 years?

Rand Paul is one of the few voices of reason among elected officials. He’s got my vote for 2016 as a presidential candidate, and if he fails to secure the GOP nomination then I hope he bolts to run as a third-party candidate. I don’t think the time has ever been riper for a third party run, and Rand Paul can do it.
If you don’t have a job, you don’t pay taxes (income/payroll) and you go on welfare.
Especially now that Rubio totally betrayed his supporters concerning "border security first" and Ted Cruz seems to be okay with recrational invasions in the middle east.
With the feds response to Snowden, it's going to help Rand Paul cobble together supporters who want the feds to get back to the stuff they're supposed to be doing.

The only way this bill passes is when the congressional black caucus and Al Sharpton etc get their pound of flesh first. Then it will pass. The Gop will go along.
First of all. it’s not “immigrant reform”, it’s allowing criminals to be rewarded for breaking our laws. Millions of democrat voters, millions of future welfare cases and millions of spanish speaking new children to invade America. It is pure insanity to even consider making these criminals into American citizens.
Rand Paul is going to have an uphill climb regardless of the kind of support he gets from like-minded people like those of us here. The establishment has already lined up behind Jeb Bush and they’ll be greasing the skids for him. I don’t want another repeat of the last few nomination battles where conservatives ate each other up and failed to coalesce behind a candidate paving the way for RINOS as Dole, McLame, and Romney to win. 2016 doesn’t look promising and what a nightmare for America it will be if it comes down to a choice between Hillary and Jeb.

2016 must be on his mind. He was sending out feelers the last couple weeks that made me think he was going to support this bill.

And those “feelers” have been enough to remove him from my personal “short list” of those who should be the SINGLE TRUE CONSERVATIVE in the 2016 primary contests (let’s end the practice of conservatives splitting the conservative vote many ways allowing a RINO to scoot in to the nomination).

IMHO we need fewer defeatists and more folks standing firm and supporting (with their time and, if they are in a position to do so, their financial support).
Right now we need to be fighting this Amnesty on all fronts and beginning to find and support firm conservatives for 2014 Republican primaries, both for the US House & Senate and for local governments.
Sorry, I hit the previous post when I meant to spell check it and therefore posted it prematurely. I meant to say:
IMHO we need fewer defeatists and more folks standing firm and supporting (with their time and, if they are in a position to do so, their financial support) our Representatives and Senators who are TODAY fighting this Amnesty.
Right now we need to fight this Amnesty on all fronts and start the process of finding and supporting firm conservatives for 2014 Republican primaries, both for the US House & Senate and for local government positions.
I’m not looking for ideological purity. I myself trend Libertarian on most social issues but I know the damage liberals are doing to our country and I’ll support a principled, conservative candidate even if I don’t agree with him or her on gay marriage and drug legalization. Those issues need to be put on the backburner as our country’s economic vitality and national security need rescue from this administration. I want someone in the White House who “will say what he means and means what he says”.
