Has Jeb's Time Come? Genes, family history & shifting demographics explain why Bush may run in 2016
Time Magazine ^ | The July 1, 2013 Issue | Jon Meacham

Posted on 06/21/2013 2:19:20 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It's one of the more interesting what-ifs of the past few decades. What would have happened if both George W. and Jeb Bush had won their gubernatorial bids in 1994? Which brother would have run for President in 2000 against Al Gore? Late in George W. Bush's second presidential term, I asked his father this question. The senior Bush shrugged, waving off the hypothetical. "Who knows?" he replied. "Didn't happen." Then, after the briefest of pauses, the 41st President added, "If Jeb wants his shot, he should have it. He's done the work, been a governor--a very fine governor, I might add--and if he wants to go for it, I hope he does."

That hope, it is safe to say, endures. No one who knows George H.W. Bush seriously doubts that the former President would like to see Jeb mount a campaign for the White House. Barbara Bush has expressed skepticism. "There are other people out there that are very qualified, and we've had enough Bushes," she told NBC's Today show last April. Asked about 2016 on ABC's This Week last Sunday, Jeb said, "I think we've got a split ballot amongst the Bush senior family. Pretty sure that's the case."(continued)

Let’s hope these NSA revelations put an end to the Democrats—and the Bushes.

Why do GOPers keep nominating spoiled rich kids to run for the White House?

If George W. Bush had been known to the public for having the Rovian hissy fits and bouts of childish name-calling directed at conservatives as Jeb Bush now is, I suspect he’d have never been nominated let alone reelected. And they call Jeb the smart one, lol. At least W kept the family disdain to himself until votes from us yahoos were no longer a concern.

Because the people in the GOP (not ‘us’, but those actually running things) are spoiled rich kids.

You GOPers can’t nominate somebody like Sarah Palin because she’s just an ordinary American. Nope, GOPers insist they must recruit candidates from fancy country clubs and nowhere else. So moosehunters need not apply, since skinning a moose is just plain undignified on the golf course.

Because the conservatives run idiots. We have to find someone who can articulate our views without sounding like an extremist.

Are you saying Sarah Palin is an idiot? Just because the MSM says Palin is an idiot doesn’t mean it’s true.

"I used to be conservative" began one such Jeb Bush tirade a while back. Another was the recent "chirpers" thing. Maybe it translates well into some Spanish language idiom? That must be the case, because it just sounded weird in English.

Sounds like maybe Rove thinks the "Angry Birds" game of years past is some sort of cultural touchstone for negatively stereotyping opposition, too, since he cranked up his pet crab McCain and set him to chirping about "wacko birds."

“Why do GOPers keep nominating spoiled rich kids to run for the White House?”

Rich people are different from you and me. They have money.

Imagine that you’ve spent a life easily getting into the best schools, and getting tutors so you can stay there. You’ve gone to all the best parties and your first car was a new Mustang or Camaro. But, finally, you’re ready to settle down and make your mark in the world. Your daddy has introduced you to the movers and shakers, who are eager to help you since there’s a large quid pro quo factor. It’s easy for you, since you have access to the moneyed people in your social network. All are eager to help for that quid pro quo reason.

Having lived this life you must feel entitled. The people who will be working on your behalf are also entitled.

This isn’t to say that all wealthy people who aspire to political office feel this way. I’m sure there are some who are decent and hard working and in it for everybody, not just their own aggrandizement.

I suspect the reason the Jeb is doing this is it’s so easy for him. With just his family connections he can place calls to virtually anybody and have them accepted. That’s power. He has it just lying there so it’s hard to not use it.

It’s not that. The GOP elites only want candidates that will keep money coming their way. Normal Americans will tend to look out for all Americans not just crony capitalists.

I saw an interview after W was elected, where Barbara admitted that they all thought that Jeb would be the one that would run and win the presidency.

However, he didn’t become Governor when they thought he would either, so W was the one who got tapped.
