Rand Paul threatens to support filibustering immigration bill

Sen. Rand Paul plans to support a filibuster of the Senate immigration bill unless it grants Congress more border security oversight, the Kentucky Republican said on Thursday. Paul does not plan to stand on the Senate floor for 13 hours straight like he did in March to protest President Barack Obama's drone policy, but he will withhold support for a motion to end debate on the bill, a procedural tactic that effectively could block the bill from seeing a final vote. "Unless they change the bill, I will vote on the side of not ending the debate, which is essentially like a filibuster, but it's not the filibuster people think of," Paul said during an interview on the "Andrea Tantaros Show." On Wednesday, the Senate rejected an amendment to the immigration bill proposed by Paul that would require the Congress to vote on whether members deem the U.S. borders "secure" every year for five years and mandate the construction of a fence along the border with Mexico. All eight members of the bipartisan group of lawmakers who wrote the original bill voted against Paul's proposal. As the bill is currently written, agencies under the executive branch will determine border security, not Congress. Paul said he "can't imagine" that proponents of the immigration bill will succeed in persuading him to support the final bill if more border security amendments are rejected.

"If it got stronger, I could consider it, but since they rejected my call to have Congress involved with determining whether the border is secure, I can't imagine how they can get me back unless they come back to me and say, 'We've changed our mind,'" he said. "We would like Congress to be involved in this."...................We'll see

We already have a law that says a fence must be built. They just ignore it. Why should we believe them now?

Exactly. The Demonicrats just need to promise Rand more border security in the bill and then ignore their promise when it passes.

"As a principled constitutional conservative, I will NEVER EVER vote for an immigration bill that doesn't secure the border!" Paul said at a gathering of Tea Partiers for Deporting Illegals, to thunderous applause. Before the audience could field questions, Paul noted "I'm sorry I can't stay, I have to attend a meeting of Hispanics for Libertarian Border Policies in two hours and promise them that I can't imagine supporting an immigration bill that doesn't include amnesty. Oh crap! I was thinking out loud again. Forget that last part"

This administration ignores laws with which it disagrees. If they don’t like the law, they won’t enforce it. Their lack of respect for the law engenders the same reaction by people outside the Federal Government.

Yeah, it’s my understanding that Kay Bailey Hutchison undermined that law with another. If true, pretty odd for a Senator from Texas. But just another RINO, I suppose.

been there done that and the fence is still not there nor is border security.

Legal immigrants have to go to their home country and apply for a visa at the American consulate so why not have all illegals go back to their own countries and then apply like legal immigrants do.\\All these people saying we can’t round them up , we don’t have to as we only have to tell them to go home if they want to stay and if they do not then they are arrested, no welfare, education , medical etc and they blow their chance of ever coming back

Of course when the fence and security is done and it’s hard to get here.
We also track those on visas so they do not overstay their visas like so many do form Asia, Ireland and Africa.

Hell big northern and western cities would see half the Chinese population and Indians disappear

Even if there is language for a fence and for 20,000 more BP agents, the Obastard administration will just ignore it.

BULL

The 1986 amnesty promised border enforcement, and we have been waiting 25+ years to see it.

Do or not do. Threats are meaningless.

Behind closed doors I am certain Rand would say he is for FULL amnesty.

Rand is not to be trusted at all.
