The FBI uses drones for domestic surveillance purposes, the head of the agency told Congress early Wednesday.
Robert Mueller, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, confirmed to lawmakers that the FBI owns several unmanned aerial vehicles, but has not adopted any strict policies or guidelines yet to govern the use of the controversial aircraft.
Does the FBI use drones for surveillance on US soil? Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) asked Mr. Mueller during an oversight hearing on Capitol Hill Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Yes, Mueller responded bluntly, adding that the FBIs operation of drones is very seldom.
Asked by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) to elaborate, Mueller added, Its very seldom used and generally used in a particular incident where you need the capability. Earlier in the morning, however, Mueller said that the agency was only now working to establish set rule for the drone program.
What about him investigating the targeting of conservatives
by the IRS and whistleblowers by DNC-murderers???
Not so much interest it seems.
This is by the book stuff here.
Why would they develop guidelines, when they can use the development of guidelines to shed any blame for the first time something goes terrible wrong?
This incident has caused us to take a look at drawing up guidelines for use of these devices. This is something we never foresaw happening. Now we'll make sure this never happens again."
“Guidelines? We don’t got to show you no guidelines!”
Welcome to the Democrat Banana Republic.
In other words, they do it a lot.
I imagine all the alphabets have them by now. Creepy.
I wonder if we’re ever going to learn what rules or regulations they follow since Mueller says they are just now getting around to figuring them out.
Reba McIntyre told us on a radio interview, “The government needs to set guidelines,” after telling us she owns guns, but no one should own “assault rifles”.
“We don’t ... you know, have any actual RULES for how we do this. But trust us ... it’s for your own good. Really. No, seriously!”
The question should have been are they ARMED drones?
I guess he gave the least untruthful answers when asked.
Translation of Muller statement:
Absent an existing protocol/doctrine regarding lawful use of drones against citizens of this republic the FBI falls back on the Lon Horiuchi tactic, “whatever...just whack ‘em.”.
( Unless they’re adherents of TROP )
local police farces are trying to get their own drones. The more, the easier it is to fly undetected (by agency).
I get non-armed drones for targeted areas, such as secret service areas or areas where terrorists might target. Airborne assets are a great eye in the sky. But drones for general population surveillance? No thanks.
I remember a small crowd here a year or two ago being ok with Hussein’s drone programme to protect our interests overseas, as long as it wasn’t on US soil...
This is so illegal.
I’ve listened to just the first couple of lectures of Mike Farris’s (Home School Legal Defense Association & Patrick Henry College) “Constitutional Literacy” class.
These alphabet agencies are out of control, and the laws and regulations they pass are completely, totally illegal.(Laws are ONLY to be passed by elected officials, not unelected bureaucrats or judges.) See Article I Section I and the 10th Amendment. (OK you all understand this better than I do, but after hearing Mr. Farris explain it, it is so clear.)
State governors need to start standing up and saying, NO MORE, these agencies are not allowed on our sovereign state soil and get them OUT of the states. Do not allow the physical presence of the FBI, IRS, EPA to set foot in your state. Have the states collect whatever federal tax and send it in.
There are remedies in the Constitution, it just will take some elected state governors and representatives with guts to stand up to the tyrants. And no doubt, it will take courage. We need some men and women with a deep understanding of our constitution and nerves of steel to call their bluff, and if the Federal government is not bluffing, and chooses to war against the states, then it’s time for states to push back against federal government, agencies and judges. They are no longer a legitimate government.
I’m not even saying secession, I’m saying, individual states decide to nullify illegal laws, regulations and AGENCIES, and then they protect their citizens from illegal enforcement by the federal government.
He reminds me off an old Russian boobocrat..
.. the sound of Buehler Buehler Buehlerrrr rings thru my mind
MUeller !! MUeller!! MUELLER!!!!
TReachery&Tyranny thru ignorance is no defence.
Thanks Black Agnes
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
You’ll have no way of knowing these are around. (and who precisely has sent them)
All those recent UFO sitings may be the drones?
Click on the link in post 20 and think of Breitbart’s death.
Yeah, you can bet they already have guidelines, because they are bureaucrats and bureaucrats don’t do anything without making a telephone book full of rules first. He just doesn’t want to tell us what they are, probably because he knows that the American people would not approve of them.
This is the TIP of the ICEBERG!! CORRUPTION EVERYWHERE!!
I don’t know about drones, but I’ll never believe that Breitbart had a NORMAL Heart attack!!
“Youll have no way of knowing these are around. (and who precisely has sent them)”
BOL not at this issue but re how available drones with cameras are for the rest of us.
A younger relative moving into puberty a couple of years ago wanted a remote controlled helicopter/a drone/ with a video cam for Christmas.
He would launch it from his bedroom window on a covered deck on hot summer afternoons.
There were a lot of swimming pools, and he would fly the basically quiet drone over the various pools to check on the cougars swimming in the nude or close to nude, with the camera on. Then fly the drone back, land it and remove the memory chip.
If the chip showed showed something of interest, he put another memory chip into his drone with recharged battery and flew it back to the point of interest for more “recon.”
I imagine when the tech gets advanced enough most pervs will have video of their neighbors.
Including the 8yr old girls and 9yr old boys they’re interested in. That fly perched in the top corner of your bathroom? Maybe it’s the neighborhood perv taking a video of your 9yr old son taking a shower.
And home invaders need only perch near one of the keypads and wait for the homeowner to punch in the code.
Or do an in house recon to see what’s available to stealing and where it is. To save time.
Think the feds won’t be in your closets looking for gun cases?
How high or how low is that legal? If a drone can fly 6 feet above the ground, over my property, is that legal? Should it be?
I don’t what will be worse, criminals, perverts or the feds using drones to monitor an invade our homes.
I want to know...
I want to know right now.
I want someone to ask the question ....
IS THE FBI SPYING ON RADICAL MUSLIMS
LIKE THE IRS - ARE THEY TARGETING POLITICAL OPPONENTS OF OBAMA?
WE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW...
This tech is already way down the rabbit hole in how it will completely change human interaction and expectations.
It will be possible for the neighbor up the street, who doesn’t like the fact that you have THREE Gaia destroying children to remediate that. Anonymously and at their leisure.
Or the next AQ attack to be completed from a Starbucks cafe via iPhone.
We’re not going to even go into targeted political assassinations. That ‘heart attack’ or ‘Flu’ that politician expired from? May have been a genomically targeted pathogen designed for just their DNA makeup.
And those 3rd world countries that can’t really affect us militarily now? They need only purchase a couple thousand cheap parrot sized drones, arm them with explosives, and fly them into and around the green zone (or NYC, or DC) at their leisure. Or target nuclear reactors. Or refineries. Or schools. Or just use your imagination here.
The elites haven’t quite grasped the technology they’ve released here. While it’ll be bad enough for the peons they don’t have anything to ‘gain’ from killing the neighbor up the street like the elites will have in targeting one another for control of their power structures.
Those lovely outdoor weddings their daughters seem to favor? Things of the past when this tech gets ramped up.
” Robert Mueller, the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation,”
This is the character who thinks the Tea Party is a possible terrorist organization.
Do you see what is going on? They are not using drones to stop illegal aliens but they are using it against American citizens. We need to stop this BS. Vote any politician (Democrat or Republican) who supports this crap out of office.
Yeah, because elections matter anymore. Right?
They don’t need to get down to 6 feet above your property. Spy satellites can read a car’s license plates from low earth orbit. A surveillance drone can do even better flying along just above the rooftops over your property, and even listen to conversations in the backyard or patio. Should it be legal? That will be determined in subsequent case law, and the courts determination of a “reasonable expectation of privacy.” Until case law catches up with technology, nothing prevents a police drone from buzzing around your property like a common housefly, peering into open windows, or hovering over your pool party.
Drones are a threat to privacy but the NSA isn’t? I guess I just don’t get that.
Too bad the official State Press won't ask these kinds of questions... I'd like to know how drones are being used in the United States and against what groups...
If every US Agency is like the IRS - and targeting people based on their political beliefs = then it's time to elect people on a single issue - cutting 'programs'...
It is where we are headed: “Well, we smoked the speeder we couldn’t catch for public safety. I mean, if we hadn’t smoked his ass using a drone missile strike he may have run into somebody. The family? Oh, you mean the collateral damage recipients? Well, that is the consequences of the speeder racing down the freeway. Sorry to the family but it wasn’t our fault.”
Its very seldom used and generally used in a particular incident where you need the capability.
He could apply the same logic to using HellFire missiles. For instance, on Justin Beiber.
Oh hai NSA
Good one. I agree with you too.
Scratch “possible” and we’re on the same page.
Another Bush appointee.
