I think Glenn Beck’s biggest failing is hanging onto an inner belief that the what he sees as the truth will eventually be brought to light and will have the devastating effects that he’s been talking about.

In the America that I remember from long ago, or an alternate universe in which a Republican (or, preferably, conservative) President and administration were exposed for doing the things that the current one has done, the consequences would be important, huge and potentially very damaging to one or both parties.

All you have to do is look at the constant drumbeat against Bush’s ‘Domestic Spy Program’, which was nothing of the sort and how the NYT and Washington Post spotlighted it for weeks on-end, and compare it to the current NSA revelations about what data is being compiled, collated and archived. These measures exceed those of the Bush admin many times over.

Mix in the other abuses from the IRS, Fast & Furious, Benghazi, Eric Holder’s lies and selective law enforcement, et al, and Beck is correct: In a world where truth matters, regardless of who is caught with their fingers in the pie, any one of these would be enough to demand serious examination and probable punitive measures against the President.

The reality is, we’re outgunned in this battle. Objectivity in reporting is gone and the ‘big media’ is complicit in obfuscating truth and molding public opinion. There’s no such thing as unfiltered, unvarnished news reporting. Many times, you’ll read comments here sarcastically stating that the media could successfully deflect attention away from certain politicians caught on video tape with a smoking gun. Believe it. No truth will ever have the expected effect when it runs counter to what the media wants.

I believe Glenn Beck is sincere and has made a tremendous effort to present many pieces of evidence over the years, and I don’t think that it’s Kabuki theater in a ratings push. As he began to ask on the Fox TV program: What if he’s right? He has been, many times.

These are my feelings, and I won’t be drawn into any pissing contests. You disagree, that’s fine. Fire away, but don’t put words into my mouth, and don’t tell me what I’m thinking or saying.

Ditto that!
FR used to be a place for lots of thoughtful discussion and review. Even when posters were arguing, there was a lot of “meat” and food for thought. Through reading many posts, I have moved away from a “pure Republican” to a more Christian constitutionalist” thinking. I’m grateful for the education many freepers have given me.

Now it seems 2/3 of the posts are these little one-liners, full of cynicism and negativity. Frankly it reminds me of how high school kids talk when they are trying to be “cool”. Not helpful, not educational, not inspiring.

Our country is in dire straights. We need COURAGE and CONVICTION, not negativity and cynicism.

“Direct pressure”

You mean like threatening to out him for the possible/probable illegal adoption of two children from Ireland?

>> We need COURAGE and CONVICTION, not negativity and cynicism.

Courage and conviction are wonderful, and necessary. But without TRUTH, courage and conviction are a tall, sturdy ladder leaning against the WRONG WALL.

Getting at the TRUTH is where a dose of skepticism and even cynicism can come in mighty handy.

Following in unquestioning loyal lockstep with ANYONE because of their “conservative credentials” is a dangerous occupation.

Just sayin’.

Even if someone is unable to fulfil a promise, that is not proof of intentional falsehood.

<><><><

OK. You are right about that. But what does a person with integrity, upon discovering they cannot back up their claim, do? Comes right out and says, hey I am unable to live up to my statements.

Beck did not do this.

He seems to be pretending that he never made the claim in the first place. That tells me something.

Good question. She brought it up a few weeks ago publicly. ..then got quiet while the investigation was going on and in the last few days has become vocal again and even went on O’Reilly.

It would seem she and CBS lawyers are prepping for a big story. Few days? Week?

Considering CBS connection to th WH I’d hope sooner rather then later.

Have considered that “they” are waiting until he and his cohorts are out of the country. Hmmmm? Can NSA record the calls if one party is not on us soil. ;-)

You may be right but I’m not sure how that fits with Beck saying it would bring down the GOP the Dems and people outside.

Thank you for referencing that Forbes article maggief. Please bear in mind that the following critique about the article is directed against Avik Roy, the author of that article, and not you.

Given the length of Mr. Roy's article, I was surprised that it didn't at least mention Gibbons v. Ogden. In fact, in stark contrast to the "he said, she said" material presented by the article, I think that several freepers could reference two sentences from Gibbons as evidence that Justice Roberts wrongly ignored that Obamacare is constitutionally indefensible.

More specifically, regardless that misguided Justice Roberts actually referenced Gibbons v. Ogden in the Obamacare opinion in order to help justify giving the green light to Obamacare, the Gibbons opinion contains the following statements which reasonably clarify the opposite of what Roberts was trying to do. In the first statement, not only does it clarify that the Commerce Clause does not give Congress the power to regulate any aspect of intrastate commerce regardless what FDR's activist justices later wanted everybody to think, but the same statement references healthcare, of all things, as an example of a state issue which Congress has no power to regulate!

"State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress (emphases added)." --Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." --Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

Regarding Justice Marshall's clarification in Gibbons of Congress's limited power to lay taxes, Justice Roberts also "overlooked" that neither can Congress lay taxes in the name of state power issues like healthcare, "rookie" Chief Justice Roberts' game-saving Obamacare tax therefore constitutionally indefensible imo.

“When has Obama & Co. NOT used scorched earth tactics to get what they want?”

The only reason Buckwheat’s scorched earth politics work is because we didn’t elect patriots into the House who would throw that commie on the ground and stomp his nuts into the concrete.

Roberts let the country down and damaged America when he sided with the socialists on Obamacare - this will probably go down in history as his worst and most foolish decision on the Supreme Court. His legacy is stained with this utter stupidity.

Obamacare was NEVER presented to Americans by Congress as a new tax, so how can he possibly classify it as a tax? Further, all new taxes begin in the House and this bill began in the Senate. I could go on and on - Roberts reasoning is flawed all the way around and any rational person could see it.

It wouldn’t suprise me at all if he was blackmailed in making the decision he did. If he was, I’m disappointed he didn’t have the backbone to stand up to the evil scum, blow the whistle on them, and say NO!!!

Interesting commentary by J. Christian Adams. However, we still have registration at the polls in WI (and several other states) and there is no time for double and triple checking. Our “citizenship check” is a tiny dot that the registrant must fill in. Even the clerks registering the new voters frequently miss this when the polls are busy. No other proof is required. More’s the pity.

Well, I know that there's no place to go beyond the SCOTUS on THIS decision, but Scalia invited the States to submit NEW laws for review if they didn't like this decision. ???

I can understand giving in to blackmail, but a Supreme Court justice--or any judge, for that matter--is supposed to be above changing an opinion based on mere "public intimidation."

I am disappointed.

I certainly don’t advocate loyal lockstep of anyone or anything, other than the Lord Jesus! :) I’ve certainly become a lot more cynical of everyone in politics lately after finally realizing what a lot of the Republicans are. And certainly don’t follow lockstep any radio personality. They can do a lot of good when they get the truth out, but they are just entertainers, after all.

Guess what I’m frustrated with is the little cynical quips/jokes that seem to fill so many threads lately.

Expressing frustration about Glen Beck’s methods is fine. I admire some of what he’s done, but I also believe he’s undermined his credibility with his methods lately.

What I’m frustrated with are comments that I’ve heard people on FR make lately like
“America, nice idea, didn’t last.”
or, “It’s all over folks”.

Everyone is free to say what they like of course, I just find having half a thread filled with lots of little negative one liner quips to be not very helpful. I think we all here recognize how dire and serious our situation is. It’s hard to strike a balance between understanding how far we’ve fallen with a strong dose of remaining hopeful and talking through positive actions we can take.

Ha ha ha fired Beck is that what you think. Beck’s network and his number 1 news website are worth about 250,000,000 heading for over a billion when he gets on two more cable networks. We can all hope we get fired and are so stupid to create the first news network that goes from internet to cable, LOL
