Obama’s Soft Totalitarianism: Europe Must Protect Itself from America
Der Spiegel ^ | June 17, 2013 – 06:09 PM | Jakob Augstein

Posted on 06/18/2013 12:32:06 AM PDT by Olog-hai

On Tuesday, Barack Obama is coming to Germany. But who, really, will be visiting? He is the 44th president of the United States. He is the first African American to hold the office. He is an intelligent lawyer. And he is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

But is he a friend? The revelations brought to us by IT expert Edward Snowden have made certain what paranoid computer geeks and left-wing conspiracy theorists have long claimed: that we are being watched. All the time and everywhere. And it is the Americans who are doing the watching. …

We’re currently in the midst of a European crisis. But this unexpected flare-up of American imperialism serves as a reminder of the necessity for Europe. Does anyone seriously believe that Obama will ensure the chancellor and her interior minister that the American authorities will respect the rights of German citizens in the future? Only Europe can break the American fantasy of omnipotence. One option would be for Europe to build its own system of networks to prevent American surveillance. Journalist Frank Schirrmacher of the respected Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper recommended that over the weekend. “It would require subsidies and a vision as big as the moon landing,” he argues. …

Mr. Augstein must be preaching to the people who have never heard of the Stockholm Program, which is the EU’s own plan for turning the “supranational entity” into a surveillance state. Obama learned all of what he does from the EU elites.

How long before the whole world sees us as a tyranny instead of hating us for our freedom?

if US Internet giants like Google, Apple, Microsoft and Facebook want to continue making money off of a half-billion Europeans, then they will have to abide by our laws. Under the new law, companies caught passing on data in ways not permitted are forced to pay fines. You can be sure that these companies would in turn apply pressure to their own government.

Pressure their own government? LOL. Does he not understand that they're in lockstep with the government? That they are ideologically on similar pages?

The “soft” totalitarianism is in fact not so “soft” now.

Ummmm, 40 years ago? Europe has seen us as a huge, crude, oafish bully at least for that long.

Obama seems designed to hand them whatever excuse they require to become hawkish.

Yeah, let’s face the truth....Obama isn’t even a friend to his “friends”. Seriously. How many have been thrown under the bus? I am referring to FRIENDS thrown under—not enemies or colleagues or acquaintances.

ANYONE who trusts him is foolish. He doesn’t even care for his own family.

Leftists hating leftists. The writer of the article is just another America-hater like most European “journalists.” But with the latest NSA scandals, he will suck in a lot of Obama-hating conservatives fooling them into believing we’re on the same side. We’re not. The writer is an enemy of America like Obama.

” He is the 44th president of the United States.”

LIE NUMBER ONE... he is not eligible so he is not president... he just lives as if he were.

“He is the first African American to hold the office.”

He is not “black” but he is half white and half black.

“He is an intelligent lawyer.”

No evidence exists that points to this conclusion... none what-so-ever!

“And he is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.”

What exactly did he do to attain that award? If it isn’t deserved... it doesn’t count.

“And he is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.”

So were Carter, Gore and Arafat. If you think about it, it's actually more admirable to belong to the long list of people who haven't received one.

How long is answered by those very people who painted first their opponents as tyrants, thus displaying their Freudian desire to be exactly that, which today in American their ilk have spawned gun running scandals in Libya and Mexico, NSA at home and CIA abroad spying scandals against the Congress, normal Americans and the rest of the world, economic crimes via the IRS against guitar companies, conservative groups, and energy companies, Justice Department protection of militant groups and churches intent upon disrupting a valid voting process, etc. How long, indeed. That was here and passed already - Hillary’s RESET Button and Obama’s domestic political opposition suppression using the valid levers of government have show the Left are totalitarians, period.

Mr. Augstein doesn't know everything about Obama, does he?

Or much else, for that matter. He's a trust-fund communist - heir to the Spiegel fortune - and gets to publish his insane utterings in the publication his father founded. Next!

For decades the Nobel Peace Prize has been nothing more than a way to hoist the progressive left’s faux heroes up on their petards to make it look like they are worthy of the world’s recognition and praise. The prize means nothing anymore. I mean look at Gore. His global warming scam is over. He’s looked at as a simpleton fool lately and the butt of endless jokes. Look at Arafat. A terrorist known more for not wanting peace with the Israelis. Look at Carter. His forced Palestinian/Israeli peace accord was a temporary joke. He’s been ridiculed as the previously worst president in US history. And then luckily for Carter, along comes the man who took his place as the worst president in US history.... Obama. He “won” the award before he did anything at all except con people into thinking he was going to be the greatest thing to hit world politics ever. Look at the mess he’s embroiled himself in now with all the scandals at home. And I’m sure those peace prize folks will be cheering him on for trying to bring peace to Syria by backing and supporting the al-qaeda terrorists.

Like you said, if you want a list of people who have done more than anybody else to bring peace to the world, just look to those that never received the Nobel Peace Prize.
