Edward Snowden blames Obama By: Tal Kopan June 17, 2013 11:39 AM EDT

NSA leaker Edward Snowden criticized President Barack Obama for empty promises in an online Q-and-A on Monday, saying the president’s alleged failings influenced his decision to release the secret information on surveillance.

“Obama’s campaign promises and election gave me faith that he would lead us toward fixing the problems he outlined in his quest for votes. Many Americans felt similarly. Unfortunately, shortly after assuming power, he closed the door on investigating systemic violations of law, deepened and expanded several abusive programs, and refused to spend the political capital to end the kind of human rights violations like we see in Guantanamo, where men still sit without charge,” Snowden said in a response to a question from a commenter on The Guardian’s website.

Snowden was responding to this question: “Why did you wait to release the documents if you said you wanted to tell the world about the NSA programs since before Obama became president?”

Snowden also said the U.S. would not be able to silence him.

“All I can say right now is the US Government is not going to be able to cover this up by jailing or murdering me. Truth is coming, and it cannot be stopped,” Snowden said when asked by Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald what would happen to the information he possessed if something happened to him.

He defended his decision to flee to Hong Kong, claiming the U.S. government did what he expected when the story came out and ruined his chance of a fair trial.

“First, the US Government, just as they did with other whistleblowers, immediately and predictably destroyed any possibility of a fair trial at home....

Well said.

Exposing 0bama’s made-up past (and possibly even who his real parents are) would be historic.

So delusional that the government has had to admit virtually everything he’s saying is true.

If Snowden is a traitor, then he is a traitor against tyranny. I seem to remember reading somewhere that our nation was founded with such treasonous ideas.

It is no coincidence Snowden dropped the bomb right after Obama and crew threw the CIA under the bus.

”Bathtub falls and police officers kill more Americans than terrorism, yet we’ve been asked to sacrifice our most sacred rights for fear of falling victim to it,” Snowden said to one commenter”.

True statement. The biggest overreach in American history was the attack on Iraq and wasting billions and billions of dollars for airport “security” after 9/11. Like I have said before and I will continue saying. The “war on terror” is the greatest thing to ever happen to the Military/Industrial Complex. Obamagabe was worth less than a million dollars when he took power five years ago. He’s worth something in the neighborhood of 12 million now. Same thing can be said of Bush and of course Mr. Five Draft Deferments Chaney. Eisenhower warned us all about these war profiteers, and no one has listened. Vietnam made LBJ a very rich man. That was the purpose of the build-up.

I don’t care if Snowden is the Devil himself. He’s irrelevant. What IS important is what we now know that our government is doing.

Look at a time line of his résumé.

Have been trying to figure out if the guy removed from CIA and moved to WH was in his chain of command. He wasn’t involved in actual spying but the tech part it appeared. Can you add your insight?

So, if Snowden is a turd that means the NSA is not snooping on Americans. Is that a correct interpretation of the media’s portrayal of Snowden?

If Rush Limbaugh was addicted to drugs, then American is not going down the liberal road to hell at warp speed.

I think I have this figured out.

“Cry baby...........Delusional. And don’t forget he only worked there for over 2 months....”

I’m not sure what you are trying to do with your post. I see from your posting history that this is, I think, your first post regarding Snowden and the NSA situation, and you have not responded to any of the posts to you on your own thread.

It is obvious that you are among those who consider Snowden negatively, or am I reading your thin post incorrectly?

Sorry, but that is the definition of bravery.

Some would say Cindy Sheehan is brave also.

They're just deluded OWS commies. Snowden is like Kim Philby..."bravely" taking refuge in commie countries. Don't be fooled.

"Cry baby...........Delusional."

"And don't forget he only worked there for over 2 months...."

I think Snowden worked for the CIA previously. And if the CIA and NSA and their contractors didn't use talented, uncredentialed computer geeks, the organizations would function like the DMV and TSA. So I would not be shocked if Congress, and even the upper echelons of the CIA, FBI and NSA are clueless about what's going on.

I think it's a lock that Assange and Snowden will at least be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize -- they may not win it, but it would be ultra cool if the Nobel committee awards them one and revokes Zero's at the same time.

That crack Snowden made about tapping into anybody’s info if he had a “personal email “ was when I started to suspect he’s more blow than go. If he’s as good as he claims he is he shouldn’t have any trouble at all finding any particular email address. Maybe we could put him to work finding the fake email addresses of all the gov’t folks who don’t want to talk to congress?

So you think it's not true?

There are companies that sell 'marketing software' that takes one key piece of info, like your phone number or email address, and then gathers all your data and displays it on screen. The salesman, or bill collector, has access to court records, property sales, Facebook info, health records, as well as most of your personal info like SSN, DOB, sex, addresses you have lived at. Purchasing habits, credit record, websites visited, political associations, club memberships, church membership. There isn't much they cannot 'get'. And it all happens before the phone can ring ONCE.
