Syria condemns Egypt

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Syrian government condemned Egypt's decision to cut ties with Damascus and back the armed uprising against President Bashar al-Assad's government, terming it an "irresponsible" move.

"The Syrian Arab Republic condemns this irresponsible position," an unnamed Syrian official told state news agency SANA on Sunday.

The official said Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi had joined the "conspiracy and incitement led by the United States and Israel against Syria by announcing the cutting of ties yesterday".

"Syria is confident that this decision does not represent the will of the Egyptian people," the official added, accusing Morsi of announcing the severing of ties to deflect attention from internal crises in Egypt.

In-depth coverage of escalating violence across Syria A day earlier, Morsi had announced the "definitive" severing of ties with war-torn Syria, and the recall of Egypt's charge d'affaires in Damascus.

This is a very interesting piece. Egypt, long a supporter from the United Arab days decades ago, has apparently abandoned Syria.

This means that Egypt has joined the GCC coalition of the Arab League in opposition to Assad. Egypt has seen the Hezbollah entry as a threat to Egypt.

The msm template is Putin/Obama/G8 but the turning away of Egypt is the real important story

Egypt has been a secular nation since the 1950s. It struggled to control the Muslim Brotherhood since before I was born. During that time, Egypt had a good relationship with Syria, also a secular Arab nation.

But Obama helped turn Egypt into a scary fundamentalist Islamic state, with the Muslim Brotherhood in charge. Currently, the scary fundamentalist Islamic fanatics are also trying to overthrow the secular regime in Syria. Obama is actively helping the Islamic fanatics in Syria. And now the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt in joining and siding with the Islamic fanatics in Syria.

Sorry -- what part of this is supposed to be surprising?

“Violence continues in Syria’s civil war...”

Doesn’t this get the NSS (No S*** Sherlock) award in bad journalism? It IS a civil war. Isn’t their violence in a war?

egypt lied to syria in ‘67 and ‘73 about their plans and capabilities so as to get syrian support for war against israel. if you always do what you always did you always get what you always got.

Actually, Egypt has been holding out on the others in the Arab League coalition attempting to oust Assad.

Egypt now sees that the introduction of Hezbollah is an indicator of weakness and has thrown in with the winning side

This business of the Muslim brotherhood is not the overiding consideration. Weakening Iran is the motivator.
