Chemical weapons experts still skeptical about U.S. claim that Syria used sarin

Chemical weapons experts voiced skepticism Friday about U.S. claims that the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad had used the nerve agent sarin against rebels on at least four occasions this spring, saying that while the use of such a weapon is always possible, they’ve yet to see the telltale signs of a sarin gas attack, despite months of scrutiny.

“It’s not unlike Sherlock Holmes and the dog that didn’t bark,” said Jean Pascal Zanders, a leading expert on chemical weapons who until recently was a senior research fellow at the European Union’s Institute for Security Studies. “It’s not just that we can’t prove a sarin attack, it’s that we’re not seeing what we would expect to see from a sarin attack.”

Foremost among those missing items, Zanders said, are cellphone photos and videos of the attacks or the immediate aftermath.

“In a world where even the secret execution of Saddam Hussein was taped by someone, it doesn’t make sense that we don’t see videos, that we don’t see photos, showing bodies of the dead, and the reddened faces and the bluish extremities of the affected,” he said.

In a passionate argument for U.S. involvement in Syria, Anthony Cordesman, a security expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, wrote Friday that “the ‘discovery’ that Syria used chemical weapons might be a political ploy.” The phrase was in an article that described strong strategic and humanitarian reasons for involvement in the crisis, particularly the recent involvement of the Lebanese group Hezbollah on the side of Assad.

“It’s not just that we can’t prove a sarin attack...

The Regime's claim probably is based on some Syrian houseburka mom using the deadly Saran to wrap leftovers. This just it, proof that Saran has killed innocents...

Same here, it's also interesting that this isn't the first time photos of proof is missing.

Ah, how I miss those Joe Biden vs. Scott Ritter days of "That's why we ride in the limosenes, and you don't"..............or the "Don't you think those decisions are a little above your pay grade" ..............arguments of the good o'l chemical weapons poker games.

Obama just ruins it for everyone.

C’mon Barry you can get more creative than following the George W. Bush playbook to launching pre-emeptive strikes in the Middle East. By the way, the Iranian Army says “thank you Obummer,” now they have an excuse to declare war on Israel and the USA.

Why would Obama lie and tie America up in another Sunni/Shia domestic dispute?

Yes, and I remember when our 'intelligence' told us that Iran had given up their nuclear program too...a deliberately false report to stop gwb from striking Iran.

Anyone wanting on or off this ping list, please advise.

The Marines were in Jordan two weeks ago. Then we discover gas was used. The same guy who came up with the Bengazi narrative thought of this one. What ever Barry does is political for him. He has only one hammer. We’re heading for a Lehman Brothers moment in the world of politics.

I don't believe anything that Obama or the UN are peddling.

There is no proof that 93,000 people have been killed either. This number is being repeated on all the networks as a fact. It is based on some guess from a woman in the UN. I don't trust her at all. She doesn't name her sources but supposedly there are 8 sources.

Her background is no surprise....pro-abortionist..big time...Harvard Law Grad from South Africa --- Navi Pillay. Looks like she has worked with at least one of Soros's companies-Open Society. I believe Soros and folks at Bilderberg want Assad removed period. It is about money and power for Soros, muslim brotherhood and others IMO.

If 93,000 have been killed wouldn't there be some pictures on the internet and there just isn't. I looked through over 100 pics and there is one grave picture shown with maybe 15 people in blue tarp but you can't see the people so you really don't have proof. Most of the dead bodies in the pics are of the rebels. I would think there would be piles of bodies somewhere is 93,000 people have been killed. I am just not convinced.
