Regarding what marketers do with that kind of data, I work in database marketing. D&B always tries to get companies to provide data but they cannot force them to do such. The government apparently can. And the worst thing that can happen when I work with your data is you get an email you don't want, you unsubscribe and that is that.
The NSA can sic the FBI on you. The Obamatons apparently can get you audited. There is utterly no comparison between private use of this information and government use as far as how intimidating it can be. Which is why we have a Fourth Amendment in the first place.

There is what? No comparison?
The mob decided my neighbor had been a bad boy so they burned his father to death.
Just like Bill Clinton.

A very legitimate question ~ NSA is getting data from everybody, so what do they pay for it? Is it money, or access, or somebody else's data.
I think you may have missed that aspect of this particular story and think it's all about NSA tapping phones, but they don't need to tape phones when the carriers and web presences have already done that part.

A very legitimate questionBS.
We may well have some parties with interests in this NSA link with private firms working as moderators?
Once again.

I've responded TWICE to your nonsense post and neither one has shown up ~ yet, other posts later on have.
Like I said, right in the solar plexus ~ seemed to have gotten a serious reaction here.
Can you explain that?

I don’t know but they’ve been able to see paintings that DaVinci painted over for at least 20 years.
